Vulgar Pang was formed originally as a studio project to bring to life the songs of Craig Hawkinson. Collaborating with producer/engineer/musician extraordinare Marc Golde of Rock Garden Studios in Appleton, WI, as well as top-notch area musicians Greg Thiel, Red Brown, Danny Jerabek, Steve Cooper, and Eric Harkoff, "Pleasure of Schizophrenia" was recorded and completed in October of 2005. An exploration through a man's mind as he searches for the truths about his passions and his purpose, the album takes on an array of musical influences from rock to punk to psychedelia to whispering ballads, from the gothic rock of "Vardoulacha" to the Tom Waits-influenced "No One Will Find Us" to the comic punk bitterness of "Bender" to "Tangier", a nod to the world of the beat writers of long ago.
The live unit was formed shortly after, with Ken Rodgers joining the fold on bass guitar and Tom Thiel on guitar as well. Vulgar Pang is soon to begin work on their second album in the fall, set to release in the summer of 2007.
