About Me

With the New York scene being pretty much dormant in terms of new bands starting up, 3 motivated kids thought that instead of whining about it, they’d start their own band! Both Ian and Charles play in the infamous Fighting Words (the youngest band in the New York Hardcore scene) and wanted a change from the blistering thrash attack also known as Fighting Words. After throwing around some ideas and writing some songs, Ian and Charles decided it was time to start searching for a vocalist and bassist to make their dream a reality. After asking around, they came in touch with longtime friend Polish John, finding out that he was just as motivated as them and wanted to do a new band (he had a short stint with now the now defunct Social Suicide back in the day). With John taking care of vocal duties, there was still one final piece of the puzzle – a bassist. Bassists being the rarest breed of musicians, it would be a daunting task for the R.T.G. boys to acquire one. However through inter-band connections they picked up the almighty Travis from punk band Terror Level Red – completing their solid lineup. With plans of recording a demo at Atomic Studios in April, touring in Summer and playing shows all around NYC whenever an opportunity arises – Running the Guard are on a mission to turn around the New York Hardcore scene, and won’t stop until their mission is accomplished.
