Phenomenon was officially formed in 1998, establishing itself as a street sound destined to shine in the future. With a dying hunger and raw passion which it still has up ‘til this day the wheels of the sound were spun by Waynie Wonz (formerly Wayne Wonder ) and Ruff Touch (formerly Tender Touch).
As two young men in their teens they aspired to develop their musical knowledge and talent by accepting any bookings including birthday celebrations and children’s parties. Although they accepted the odd booking (AKA a Play-out ) The majority of their time was spent in Waynie’s make shift studio forming the infamous bond the two had whilst performing.
The sound then grew in size with the introduction of Dre and Dilemma late in 1999. Dilema’s addition conquered a whole new generation of ravers with his passion for Garage and Jungle music. Dre was responsible for setting up many of the house parties phenomenon took on to make their mark as a south London sound.
After going through the early starts of a lower level sound, Phenomenon began to realise their strength and potential and broke into the club scene playing at various venues and involving themselves in events such as Final Conflict, Ben & Jerry’s, Fantasia and Feelin It. As time went on the four teenaged boys rapidly turned into young men and decided to put all their experience to the test and invest in events and promotions of their own. With regular slots on various radio stations, they were able to aid their hard work by advertising and increasing their mailing list. Phenomenon’s most recent addition who continues to mature into a fine host with a superb bond with his DJ (Wayne Wonz) is Sweets.
Sweets addition in 2004 has yet again allowed Phenomenon to evolve by taking on new challenges and aiming for higher heights. Wayne Wonz is now not only the Crew’s hip hop, RnB, Bashment, Soul and Reggae DJ he is also an illustrious, outrageous, energetic host assisting Dilema and orchestrating some of the sound businesses most talked abut Funky House and Old Skool, Garage sets (sessions).
A mixture of the DJing of Wayne Wonz and Dilema and the hosting by Sweets and Wayne Wonz and the firm guidance and wise mentoring of Dre, Phenomenon has proved to grow into a sturdy collective and unstoppable sound, check out South London’s secret………..
