Formed in 2003, BRIDGEPORT REPUBLIC started out under the name, TRUE SCHOOL CLOTHING. After the clothing line's debut, an instant buzz was created on the streets. Then, all of the sudden, the apparel was embraced by the music, art, fashion, and film industries. Shortly thereafter, the name was changed to BRIDGEPORT REPUBLIC, for legal purposes. Founders, Chris Beattie and Darryl Pettway, are artists/musicians, who were born and raised in Bridgeport, CT. The two were schooled in all aspects of street culture, as they immersed themselves in the indie music/art scene, absorbing the values of DIY ethics. Together they envisioned a universal line of apparel that was derived from the streets, yet still appealing to people from all walks of life. The final result was a line of quality clothing which has no boundaries.
More than a clothing brand, BRIDGEPORT REPUBLIC is a tool for the movement to honor and represent an independent yet united lifestyle, rooted in the streets. To this day, Chris and Darryl are still expanding their cultural and artistic knowledge. Now, the duo prefer to say they are still learning, but not being "schooled".
