site specific and/or environmental artwork, performance art, good painting as in people who know how to mix colours, folk, 'outsider' art, sufism, ancient christianity, nature, food and nutrition, herbalism, shoes, technology - how we are merged with it, shamanism.
Its always there! I have to remind myself sometimes how unbelievably special music is, either by not listening to any or actually playing it which i should really do more often given that it is the most powerful thing i know other than nature which music is a part of. I have recently discovered Albert Ayler, but I was already in love with duke ellington and john coltrane and miles davis...also a big part of my life and influence in my workis morton feldmans piece 'philip guston'. also terry riley. gamelan. hybrid music - that could mean anything - the best being where you really hear 2 or more kinds of very different ways of approaching music and sound, or anything else i guess, coming together and seeing the developments take place and become more natural and forceful.I think its really important not to let ones tastes become an editing system though, or you wont really get the fullness of music. I have played drums for about 3 years but its on and off unfortunately, as i also do other things but i only ever want to do one thing. I do a lot of voice work and improvised songwriting, but that barely ever touches the light of day...in that i still keep myself to myself...drums i can play in public though. Primarily Im a visual artist, because it is the thing i have studied most and obsessed over most, but i feel more in tune with music and sound probably because ive not studied it extensively...but i do love to create what i do, becuase its the same as music for me, only i have greater control! to do wth gesture in so many ways. Sculpture/photo installation has started to involve music as an informant and context for working. I hope all this doesnt sound too up my arse but it is a lot of what i think about.
Bergman, Hitchcock, David Lynch

it varies, but at the moment i am reading a lot of rumi, and parts of the bible. I like raymond carver a lot. Have been reading a lot of virillio and a bit of baudrillard. i may as well list artists i like...philip lorca di corcia, nauman, gordon matta-clark, jason rhoades, bits of antony gormley, robert gober, some sufi art, i cant think of anyone else right now, this whole list sounds lame and incongruous but isnt that the way, isnt everything?
John and Alice Coltrane, my dad, my little sister
