My Interests

Things of the heart and mind. I love to cycle, write, read and generally be different. My band 'Cheats and Liars' formed before Christmas 2006 and we recorded in May 2007 and played a Festival of music and culture in Sicily in August 2007 as guests of the council of Porticello. I love good comedy (subjective I know), and music which is our sneak preview to heaven along with the other odd human experience.

I'd like to meet:

Anyone with a story to tell, ears to listen, a mind to share and a bar bill they'll pay.

Music:

Bowie, Morrisey, Lulu, Madonna, Elvis, all the one-namers. No, I'm kidding. Anything that sounds new, fresh. The re-formed New York Dolls are great. I love Iggy, (and Mr. Bowie naturally), Smokey Robinson, Roy Harper, Morphine, Tom Verlaine, Wonderstuff, Mr. J. Cocker and Pulp, The Clash, Eels, Blur, Stevie Wonder (69-76), Robyn Hitchcock, The Finn Brothers (in all forms), Tom Waites, The Buzzcocks, Lou Reed, The Beach Boys, Big Star, Elvis Costello, Bill Nelson, Kings of Leon, Barenaked Ladies, B.B. King, John Martyn, Captain Beefheart (The Captain), The Ruts, Josh Rouse, Joe Walsh, Talking Heads, Flaming Lips, Billy Bragg, The Jam, Patti Smith, The Beatles, Mogwai,The Skids, The Killers, Television, Billie Holiday, Green Day, REM, Van Morrison, T.Rex, The Jayhawks, Nat King Cole, The Duels, Johnny Cash, John Cale, Roxy Music (early), Muse, Graham Parker, They Might Be Giants, The Who, Miles Davis, Terry Reid, The Faces, The Only Ones, Mott The Hoople, The Delays, Henry Rollins, Flaming Lips, Nick Cave, James Brown, Echo and the Bunnymen, Jeff Buckley, The Pixies, Marvin Gaye and sooooooo much more.

Movies:

'Sympathy for Mr and Lady Vengence' and 'Oldboy', 'Bladerunner', 'Eraserhead', 'Primer', 'Life of Brian', 'Capricorn One','Rear Window', 'Donnie Darko', 'Helza Poppin','Duck Soup', Leon', 'Life is Beautiful','Coffee and Cigarettes', 'Bladerunner', 'Nosferatu', 'Hannibal Brooks', 'This is Spinal Tap', 'Slingblade', Galaxy Quest','Alien', 'Dirty Harry', 'Fargo', 'Man on The Moon', 'Good Fellas', 'Plan 9 From Outer Space' 'The Silent Partner', 'Team America', 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind', 'Young Frankenstein', most Marx Brothers, most Woody Allen, all Kevin Smiths work and the Coen Brothers films and, naturally, Hitch's work. There are hundreds that I like, enjoy, admire. Like everything else, most films are toilet but the good ones are just great.

Television:

Books:

Favourite author - Joseph Conrad. Next up may well be Daphne Du Maurier. I read a lot and do not stick to any formula or genre. Bill Bryson is probably my favourite contemporary writer although I have enjoyed Nick Hornsby and Carl Hiaasen. Spike Milligan gets a mention as do Charles Dickens, Maya Angelou, Sebastian Faulkes, George Orwell, Giovanni Guareschi, Harper Lee (what's the new book like ?), and Oscar Wilde. The Time Travellers Wife was awesome.

Heroes:

Still thinking. Maybe keep adding yeah ? Dr. King, Lee Miller, Gandhi, Lennon, Lydon, Conrad, Bach, Chrissie Hynde, Berry Gordy and Max Wall. Maybe you too - I dunno ?

Write

If you write about love, you had better have loved. If you write about death, you should have died, for if you have loved, you have died, at least a thousand times. If you write about life, you should...

What did you lose today?

Last night a text appeared telling me what I had feared that it was over. Something so special with such great potential was finished. So final. No possibility of reprieve or re-consideration reconcil...

See

I would like to be the hat on your head, The cat on your bed, A thought unsaid, if it lead to some unthinkable dread. Cos, for a while, I'd like to be, the smile on your face, satin and lace, the sa...

The Pilot

So the pilot light went out. It's nowt, to shout, about. Who knows why? A breeze, A sneeze, that caused a freeze. Incidents, that seem so small, beleaguer us all. But when we're tall, and strong, like...

You, me and my mug of tea.

I look at your picture, it's all I have. I put on the kettle and think, 'fuck it', this'll never fit! I get out my mug, I warm it first, that's best, to quench this thirst. Put the milk in next, then ...

The Brown and The Gold

A carpet of brown and gold heralds the cold, covers the grass like history covers the past. A couple of ladies buttoned up and covered head to foot in tartan and beige, reflectors of age, bench bound...

Too Late

Is it really that far to fall? From my head to the sidewalk. Fall down I do, again and again with repetition like an old refrain. I log it in the files in my head, They go on for miles, all I've done ...
