Quortina Phipps, Mezzo-Soprano has been recently named the Greater Memphis Arts Council 2007 Emerging Artist. Originally from Memphis,TN, she has been married for 6 years. She graduated with distinction from LeMoyne-Owen College in 2006. Mrs. Phipps is currently pursuing her masters degree in Music with a concentration in Opera Performance at the University of Memphis. She is an aspiring Opera Singer. Since college, Quortina has participated in an Italian Opera Study Abroad Program with Pieralba Soroga, located in Pisa, Italy and in a two week tour performing concerts all over Paris, France. Mrs. Phipps sings with the Opera Memphis Company where she has performed in "Cavelleria Rusticana", "I Pagliacci", "Tosca", "The Merry Widow", "Samson and Dalila", "Amahl and The Night Visitors", " Il Trovatore", and "Carmen". Quortina made her debut performing the roles of Annie and The Strawberry Woman in "Porgy and Bess" in October of 2006. In February of 2006, for Opera Memphis she presented a 50 show tour called "The Life of Marian Anderson" and with the Como Opera Guild recreated the "1939 Easter Concert" given by Marian Anderson.
