Remedy

Bring together five young, talented, driven musicians that share a
passion for entertaining the masses, ply them with instruments and an
eager audience and you have REMEDY.
Since honing their skills belting out other people’s songs as ‘Studio 4’ to
sell-out crowds in Sydney, Newcastle and all across country NSW,
REMEDY have been crafting their own brand of high-energy rock/funk
hybrid original tunes.
Joel Black (Guitar) finds it difficult to recall a time when he didn’t have
an instrument in his hand. A country boy born and bred, Joel’s move to
the North Coast of NSW in 1994 found him surrounded by like-minded
musical souls whose collaborations resulted in exciting bands such
as ‘Self-Titled’ and ‘Diamond Blue’ and numerous recordings. Joel also
professionally tinkers with the odd bit of recording gear under the label
of ‘Inner Vision Music’ which proudly recorded REMEDY’s first ever EP.
Adam Johnson (Drums) pretends he has a day job, but those poor souls
whose roofs he is in charge of restoring often find him tapping out
rhythms on tiles with whatever he can get his hands on. Such is the
mark of a master percussionist. Adam first began drumming at the
tender age of 15 on a kit held together with rope! These days Adam
gets to play on a ‘proper’ kit and does a mighty fine job of it!
Some would say Wil Davies’ voice deserves its own dressing room. With
a wealth of experience ranging from early stints performing as a boy
soprano with his primary school choir to inflicting ear-bleeding
offensives on unsuspecting audiences with his bands ‘Big Wooden
Spoon’ and ‘Bazooki’, Wil’s dedication to the art of singing is always
apparent.
Jolyon Briggs is the sort of multi-instrumentalist that every other band
wishes they had. His versatile fingers first caressed a piano keyboard at
age 10, strummed a guitar at 12 and found their way around the keys
of the saxophone at 15. Jol’s passion for Jazz saw him performing with
his two elder brothers in and around Newcastle as ‘The Briggs Trio’ for
many years and a yearning to exorcise his ‘funk demons’ led him to
take up the gig with Studio 4 in 2005. REMEDY has given Jol an outlet
for his major passion, which is song-writing.
The newest edition to the REMEDY line-up is the masterful
Heath ‘Hotcakes’ Sketchley on Bass. Heath’s commitment to laying
down some serious groove is in most part due to his varied list of
influences, which range from Ray Charles to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
During daylight hours, he sells his soul studying fitting and machining to
support his bass habit.
REMEDY hope to bring their unique sound to a wider audience in 2007.
They shall leave no stage un-funked, no outdoor amphitheatre groove-
less and they promise to heal what ails ye’.
