The 22 year old began his musical evolution at age 4 in Condobolin, a small Central Western NSW town where he was influenced by his father, Bruce and the many musicians and bands that were connected to him. He then moved to the Newcastle area with his family where guitar and music was still flowing through his veins. At a young pre-teen age through contacts he had opportunities to meet and seek advice from many respected guitarists and musicians such as Tommy Emmanuel. Joel took Tommy’s advice and directions and dedicated all of his free time to working on his guitar skills and developing a style of his own with sounds of Emmanuel. Though being conscious of seeking his own style Joel began to explore many techniques of well known acclaimed guitarists including Steve Morse (Deep Purple), the 10 times International Guitarist of the Year. Joel met with Steve a few times and took on board what this professional could pass on to him and studied Morse’s techniques to add to his abilities.
Joel has also been involved in the Country Music scene where he has supported and played for many artist, Including, Sharnee Fenwick, Col Finley, Dean Johnston, Nelly donovan at the Tamworth Country Music Festival, Gympie Muster and Mud Bulls & Music. He has built up respect from many guitarists and musicians that have heard him perform.
Joel started his first real working band at high school with friends; this was “Self-Titled†that evolved into “Diamond Blue†which worked many jobs around the Newcastle area and throughout the state. The band achieved much success in the local ABC Music Awards and other competitions in local Newcastle areas. Their music received airplay across the state and in the Central Coast area. Needing a change in 2004, he then developed InnerVision Music, his own sound recording business, and the ever popular covers band, “Studio 4†which was accepted throughout the state with many followers. “Remedy†was the original band stemming from Studio 4 to focus their attention on their own funk rock music that was written and recorded in 2006.
2007 took a new turn, teaming Joel up with Producer Tom Williams, Singer/Songwriter Samuel J Hewson & Drummer Doogie Marks at Tommirock Records as the preferred Recording & Touring Guitarist for all Artist, Which have included, Afro Moses, JERIKO, Col Finley, Sharnee Fenwick, Lauren Buckley (Australian Idol), Maria Maroulis, Beth Robinson, Daren Fewins and many other artist.
