#1 International Bestseller. Over one year on the New York Times Bestseller list. "Captivating, minutely imagined... a novel that refuses to stay shut." -Newsweek- Tis brilliant debut novel presents with seamless authenticity and exquisite lyricism the true confession of one of Japan's most celebrated geisha. In MEMOIRS OF A GEISHA, we enter a world where appearances are paramount; where a girl's virginity is auctioned to the highest bidder; where women are trained to beguile the most powerful men; and where love is scorned as illusion. It is a unique and triumphant work of fiction-at once romantic, erotic, suspenseful-and compleatly unforgettable. -Angel- Let mother Earth now deck herself in flowers, To see her offspring seek a good increase, Where justest love doth vanquish Cupid's powers, And war of thoughts is swollow'd up in peace, Which never my decrease, But, like the turtles fair, Live one in two, a well-united pair; Which that no chance may stain, O hymen, long their coupled joys maintain! Exurp from The Arcadia By Sir Philip SidneyAlso a must read is SistaSulja's "The Longest Winter Ever"
My heroes would have to be the slaves of olde. They helped pave the way for who and what the black man has become today. We are Free! Slaves instilled the values of freedom in their children, and in their childrens children, therefor creating leaders such as Dr. Martin Luther KIng Jr., Rosa Parks, Malcom X, and many more that followed and continue to speak for the African American race, as some cannot. Our slave ancestors gave us the power to become more than the white man ever expected us to be. We must protect this knowledge and pass it on to our children as they did before us.
