Music is the best

About Me

..Hi, my name's Bruce and I'm a guitarist who plays around Toronto. In the late 80's I decided to figure out what I was doing and moved down to L.A. for a year to attend Musician's Institute. It was there that I got to meet, jam and study with some incredible guitar players.....a real ear and eye-opener. My first cool gig back in T.O. was with a rapper named Devon who had a hit on Much Music called "Mr. Metro". After that I moved to Kingston to go to law school and played around town with a bunch of guys who were in the Mahones, the Cowboy Junkies, and Sarah Harmer's early bands....lots of pub gigs and plenty of Guinness!!!After graduation I moved back to Toronto to article and played with a funky pop band called the Deli Llamas. The music was a little different for me - kind of a cross between BNL and Frank Zappa. We put out an indie CD, got lots of play on CBC, and had some of the music used on a number of TV shows.About the same time I started a Sunday night jam band with some old music buddies called the Crown Jewels. This was back in 1995 and we figured we'd last about 6 weeks....well, 11 years have passed and we're still at it, every Sunday at Scruffy Murphy's, 150 Eglinton Avenue East.I joined up with Staggered Crossing and played with them from around 1997 until the end of 2001. Those were great years....we did lots of high profile gigs, toured the country, recorded an album with Warner Music Canada, got tons of radio play, spins on Much Music, opened for mega-bands, you name it...a fantastic time in my life. After Staggered I returned to civilian life (read: job, family, mortgage) but kept the music going with the Crown Jewels.....I've also been lucky enough to jam out with my friends Tim and Jeremy Elliott, The Jimmies, Driveway, The Dave Marshall Band, Matt Marren, Dave Engle and Tony Rage, The Doug Courtice Band, JT and Danny Good-Times, Darrell "The Doctor" O'Dea, Jenn Taylor and By Coincidence, Peter Murray, Kim Bingham, Journalists for Human Rights House Band, Tim and Steve Bahnesli's jam at Healey's, The Tyler Ellis Band, David Scully....hell I even got to rock out with Ron Sexsmith and Sloan at a buddy's wedding. Lately I've been practicing alot of country-funk on my ol' gut string and sitting in with Ghostwalk Creek.....click on the GWC link in the friends section for details... I edited my profile with Thomas' Myspace Editor V4.4
