"I need an island, somewhere to sink a stone"

About Me

When i was 16, a good friend of mine, Alex Edwards fascinated me with his guitar playing. I bought a guitar off him for £20, he gave me one lesson and let me get on with it. By the age of 19, i could use all my fingers. Then i tried to sing. Then i tried to write song's to sing about. I started writing songs with another good friend of mine Matt Cussworth by the age of 21. We both wrote a song from a poem my father had written. Which i had to perform in a theatre production. After drinking half a bottle of whiskey i got through it, but realised that nerves and confidence was an issue. I shyed away from everything and the next few years i went through a difficult time. The only way i could channel my feelings and express myself was through music. It took me a long time but with constant pushing from my friends i.e. Matt by chance i met a mutual friend Steve Longstaff, who produces his own music and plays the double bass. A year later we were gigging. So from being afraid to play in front of a couple of people to playing i front of a few is a great release for me. I always said, " If i can get one person to listen to me i'm happy, but to get loads of people singing your lyrics back must be amazing." Maybe one day.......Content from Coshed.com - Myspace Layouts

Influences: Music has always influenced me through film, like when you watch a sad part in a film and the music adds to the emotion. For example, Platoon, when the helicopter is flying away and william defoe is left behind, and Barbers "adagio for strings is playing in the background. Classical music is also a big influence. A few of my main influences in music artists are;Heather Nova, Tori Amos, Radiohead, Placebo, The Verve, Antony and the johnsons. These are some of the albums i still listen to now. Other influences are when i hear a song and it stands out. From artists such as Gemma Hayes, Portishead, Carina Round,Smashing Pumpkins, Ludovico Einaudi, Skunk Anansie, Jeff Buckley, U2, INXS,The Cranberries, The Sundays, George Michael, Regina Spektor, Enigma, Nirvana, Elbow, Feeder, NIN, Damien Rice, Pearl Jam, Susie Suh, Bic Runga, Haven, Doves, Lost Prophets, Transister, Funeral for a friend, Fightstar, Finch, Deftones, Emery, Sade, Sigur ros, Low.
