-----------------------------------------SYNTHESIZED AMBIENT GUITAR----------------------------------- -------------------------------- ---------------------------------- ------------------------------------ ----------------------- I suppose now that iv'e given a name to my playing style I should Validate it with a brief explination and Enlighten you vei-sa-vei to the in's & out's iv'e developed or employed over some years creating a recognisable "Indevidual" playing style co-dependant with a Unique yet at times Familliar blend of sound structures each synthesized or chosen to represent itself as a lone or a multiple element within a wide and varied Sound Canvas, elementally projected within a Stereo Field of either a consistant positional definition or a more animated tone adding texture and perspective defining the boundaries of the Stereo Imaging capabilities of the sound delivery system. ............ I Synthesize the sound using four or more programable stereo output guitar effect processors, each independently fed via the outputs of a simple signal in - signal out mixer connected to the mono output of the guitar via a mono mike input to the mixer. I found this to be a safe and effective method of spliting the source instrument elliminating any sporadic crossover or feedback between the multiple outputs, maintaining the guitars natural tone and volume as it is delivered to each multi-processor or "Sound Synth". I use the term "Sound Synth" because I consider each processor as an "Independent Instument" with it's own role to play within the completed structure of the Soundscape........ ......... ..eg...Synth one may be tuned to respond to the lower end of the sound spectrum positioned at eight o'clock Right to represent a defined Bass sound Imaged toward the Front right representing the lead ryth'm section Imaged toward the Front Right region of the now split spectrum both in the original sounds frequency responce and it's Imaged position whith'in the Stereo Field... ...At this point in the example im'e sure it's become clear to you how a simple tone diferential and Balance offset can create the Impression of the presence of two instruments whithin the Soundscape. "keep in mind that this is a simplified example easily recreated using tone and balance controlls on a stereo mixer or two guitar amps"..... ..........Now to Synth three... Introducing a multi layer'ed chorus effect with a slow echo spread wide across the Stereo Field can create an Ambient Wash across the Soundscape, most suitably defined in a balanced position of ten o'clock Right placing the sound image to the rear of it's bass and ryth'm counterparts. " The various options suitable for creating this Ambient back-ground effect are as wide and varied as maybe your appetite for Exploration or Experimentation. The Intrinsic elements are Echo, Wide Field of Sound and or some form of Resonant Variation." ................. ..........Synth's four...five...six or more, "do what you want with them". The three Key Elements that I have illustrated create a simple Synthesized Ambient Effect... I bin messin with Music a lot the past 12 years or so in a seriouse way and done a few gigs , open mikes and housepartys over the years. The house party stuff was 8bit amiga live remixes and shit. " lots of fun as you may expect". I am a solo artist. I play electric guitar through multiple effects units and create to the most part an ambient and atmospheric sound. I also write my own lyrics usualy about life as observed or experienced by myself. I have a passion for writing love songs, iv'e been told that they are kinda gothic but I prefer to consider them myself to be alternative. At the moment I am attempting to create a synthesised orchestral feel to things which works well with most of my material and quite a few covers especialy Knights In White Satin,Nothing Compares To You,Imagine and I could go on and on etc. On the subject of covers, I do them to relax in-between writing new material mostly,"We all gotta turn off from our own agenda sometimes to gain a wider perspective of whatever we may be doing" and I conciousely attempt to write my music to appeal to or at least get to a wider audience than myself "but don't tell that to my ego". The cliche One Man Band sticks in my throat a bit but i suppose it is appropriate considering the fact that I like my sound to be extended beyond the bounds of most solo performers. I also prefer to perform without the aid of overdubbing creating my music in realtime rather than doing multiple takes.What you hear is what I do and iv'e yet to hear any other artist do the same as myself though im'e sure im'e not alone.........Im'e not looking for fame and fortune and am happy being who I am and enjoying what I do, the occasional audience is enjoyable but im'e an ordinary bloke ish. DESCRIPTION: Sex & Drugs & RnR......... Or Is It !!!!!!!! Rush Of Desire by The British Terrorist is a small section of a video recorded in 1990 of my Wife ( JULIE ). The audio track is a reworking of two songs Wind of Desire and Rush. Wind was inspired by the way it felt when our eye's first met at the Royal Pier Southampton in 1976. Rush is a song about Cocain Addiction inspired by a program broadcast on TV "not a reflection of any personal experience". Both songs were written in 1995 and added to a short slow motion section of the video. The enlarged pixelisation of the clip is intensional "sQuint your eyes and all will become clear" excuse the punn. The video was filmed using an early sony video camera under low light conditions with the camera tied to my leg in an attempt to create an alternative and atmospheric view or angle.
