Te Ua

Te Ua Houkamau started singing in Kapa Haka with Turanga Wahine Turanga Tane in 1995 in Gisborne Has travelled over to Australia and Tahiti on cultural exchanges during his time at school. In 2001 Te Ua started Professional Training at the Eastern Institute of Technology gaining his Diploma of Performing Ast Voice. During his time at the Institute he played roles including ARAB in West Side Story (ALso Understudied Tony), Magic Flute, Lead in Albert Herring, Sung with Malcolm Mc Neill (New Zealand's Premier Jazz Singer) in the Craggy Range Wineries concert of Cabaret, singing the Lead roles in, ‘All that Jazz’ and ‘Sit down you’re rocking the boat’.Self devised Cabaret show at Rhythm and Blue’s Café (Napier) Accepted into the Conservatorium of Music (Wellington) for 2003.Moving to Wellington in 2003 he started his Bachelor of Music Majoring in Classcial Peformance Voice and was reciepient of the Francis Irwin Hunt Scholarship and Winner of Young Artist Study Award in 2003.Between 2004 - 2006 Te Ua has played roles in Norma, Goyescas, Long Christmas Dinner, Oliver and also sung at The International Chardonnay Awards, Opera in the Vines, Country Music Entertainer of the Year Awards (Guest Judge), Performed the National Anthem in the Beehive at the 150 year Celebrations of New Zealand Parliament. In January 07 Te Ua will sing at the National Arboretum of New Zealand Eastwoodhill Arboretums summer concert.In 2007 Te Ua sang Part of the Melbourne FEstival of Arts and was fortunate enough to gain a part in the Phantom of the Opera in Melbourne. He is currently living in Melbourne and is enjoying meeting all these new people.
