Regularly described as crazy, this seven-piece band recently returned from a series of successful shows in Manchester, Amsterdam and London, followed closely by Sydney and Brisbane.Spacifix started their careers as a group of enthusiastic high school students, ranging in age from 13 to 18 four years ago, when they entered the Smoke Free Pacifika Beats national band competition and won. Since then, the band have been performing their blend of funk, pop, reggae, and rock all over New Zealand. ‘‘All of us grew up listening to music, but we all have different tastes which we have managed to fit really nicely together, with all of our musical influences and aspirations contributing to the band’s sound.’’Spacifix spent several years writing songs and building a fan base in Auckland before releasing their debut album Much Love in 2006. The year was a successful one for the band, who were commissioned by World Vision to write and record the 2006 40-Hour Famine soundtrack, Spread da Word. The music video of their hit single Sunshine Day won a prestigious Telly Award, which honours video and film productions from around the world, in Los Angeles, and the band have two Pacific Music Awards and one Tui (New Zealand Music Industry Award) under their belts already. The band’s early success and trip to Los Angeles were filmed for a nine-episode series aired on New Zealand Television called Henderson to Hollywood. The show won the Air New Zealand 2007 Screen Award for best reality series. With international acclaim and performances with artists like UB40 and Shaggy under their collective belt, the band is looking to have more of a presence in both the New Zealand and Australian markets, with the release of their new EP due out in Australia later this year. The group also plan to return to Europe next year, where their mix of music, dance and theatre caught many audience members by surprise.Spacifix will be headlining the Pasifika Festival at The Brisbane Powerhouse at the end of August as well as performing shows on the Sunshine Coast and at Tweed Heads.Band Members:Tau - lead vocals
