Beres Hammond and Marcia Griffiths two of my long time favorite artists. I first saw Marcia Griffiths back in the day when she performed with Bob Marley as a member of the I-Threes along side Rita Marley and Judy Mowatt. Beres Hammond who I like to refer to as "the Luther Vandross of Reggae" is the kind of artist that makes music you can Rock All Night to.......Ja Mon!!
Mamadi Nyasuma: 2000 BLACK(founder/ director/ percussion/vocals/ song writer/producer)In the Washington, DC cultural community and beyond Mamadi Nyasuma is a giant, an icon, a teacher, percussionist, drummer, vocalist, song writer, producer and founder of the group 2000 Black. Mamadi and his musical collective was inspired by ancient Egyptian society and the African diaspora. The music on 2000 Black includes scholars Dr. John Henrik Clarke and Dr. Marimba Ani and musicians Carl Grubbs and Ayanna Gregory. Mamadi's collective featured master drummers on the song "Land Of The Drum" which is one of my favorites. The group's second album, 2000 BLACK Volume 2 combined spiritual jazz arrangements with the art of Spoken Word. To my understanding the inspiration for the name "2000 Black" is taken from a song by the same name by musician Roy Ayers. 2000 BLACK is an independent cooperative economic project of T.R.U.T.H., Inc. T.R.U.T.H. Inc. is an information research service institution, specializing in gathering and disseminating information for and about African/Black people throughout the diaspora. Taking control of the economics in this type of project allos the producers to present the music and the lyrical content in an unedited and uncensored way, in which the majority of the time in the major music industries our artist are not allowed to do. Mamadi used his vision to uplift others both musically and spiritually. Long before I had the pleasure to meet Brotha Mamadi I knew of his works by the Fruits Of His Labor. Upon meeting Brotha Mamadi I had a chance to learn, be inspired and network with others. I just want to let others know and give a tribute to my friend and soldier in the struggle for equal rights and as he would say "Sound Advice". Peace and Blessings.REST IN PEACE BROTHA MAMADI
