Have you ever been discrimenated against unfairly? Have you ever been judged for the way you dress or the way you do your hair? Have you ever been looked down on for your preference in music, books and movies? And what about your religious beliefs? Many of us face these trials daily, but there are three men who today are sitting in prison, for no crime other than being different from those around them.
In May of 1993, Damien Echols, Jason Baldwin and Jessie Miskelley were arrested for the alledged tripple homicide of three eight year old boys, with no eveidence whatsoever linking them to the murders. In a nearly incomprehensible chain of events, and a botched travesty of a trial, the three were "found guilty" of the triple homicide and sentenced to life in prison (except for Echols, who was sent to death row, where he sits to this day).
Why should you care? Because 14 years ago, three human beings were treated like monterous animals because of the prejudice and superstitions of the people in their town. Who knew that having long black hair and listening to Metalica could land a person on death row? You should care, because if it can happen to them, it can certainly happen to YOU.
I fight for the rights and freedom of The West Memphis Three because I believe in "freedom and justice for ALL", not "freedom and justice for the socially acceptable".
