PUERTO CANDELARIA is not only considered the best and most stable jazz ensemble in Medellín but also one of the most important jazz groups in Colombia. The group strives to include modern musical elements without loosing the essence of traditional Colombian rhythms and melodies.PUERTO CANDELARIA has offered new musical structures that have influenced other groups and has already made its mark on Colombian music.PUERTO CANDELARIA was born in 2000, by the idea of the young master in composition and pianist (From the EAFIT University) Juan Diego Valencia, and another four young musicians that found in this Project a way to focus and express all their musical knowledge and take advantage of Colombian music heritage.Puerto Candelaria’s music is almost synonymous with the new musical movement called “El Colectivo Colombia” (founded by the saxophone master Antonio Arnedo) with the aim of further developing Colombian Jazz.DISCOGRAPHY Llegó la Banda (2006)Their second album, co-produced with the Colombian Label MERLIN STUDIOS PRODUCCIONES communicates intimate musical interpretations with ironic humor, innocent questions and explosive beats; a reflection of Colombian society.Kolombian Jazz (2002)Their first album co-produced with the Colombian Label Guana Records, was the first acoustic jazz production recorded in Medellín. The magazine “Revista Semana” named it as the best Jazz C.D. produced in Colombia during 2000.Majagua (2004)In Claudia Gomez most recent album, Puerto Candelaria is the group featured along with other important artists such as Hugo Candelario, Antonio Arnedo and Guafa Trio.
