Water Hyphop is each and all these 10 elements. When an element is taken out of context from the whole, that element and the whole ceases to be Water Hyphop.
One element never represents the totality of all the others. These elements are Eternal and outside of time. These Criteria are permanently set to separate the “fan†from the Artist-Lyricist-Emcee/Ryhymesayah and maintains that the total culture of Water Hyphop remains intact…forever. Let the “Fan†be the “Rapper†in the “Babble Industryâ€// and Let “Dirtbag†be the new name for wack emcees//...
The adjectives, Dirtbag(masculine) and Ginger (feminine) are is the highest insults in Water HypHop, both meaning a lying, conniving, untrustworthy, unclean, useless and untalented person who lacks respect for themselves and others, regardless whether the individual has one or all of these traits. Founded in Maarztown, Nu Jeruzylem (Morristown, New Jersey) Memorial Day Weekend 2004 setforth by Vagahbond (a.k.a Gahmeih)
…I. Lyricism— Lyricism is the Founding Element for Water Hyphop. the ‘y’ replaces the ‘I’ –as opposed to the spelling of the original word Hip-Hop—because the persons’ life experiences down to how the person talks is the real reason that person exists or parishes. The ‘I’ in traditional Hip hop is selfish; dictating what is the Art form through an individual. It’s NOT ‘I think therefore, I exist;’ It is ‘I am because We Are.’ In other words, the ‘hood makes you the person you are, give credit to the experiences, places, people that molded you into ‘you’. Water Hyphop which obeys the roots of original Hip Hop culture—giving reasoning to strengthen the art form through learning from the triumphs/ tragedies of Hip Hop and untold histories of the local people. ‘Water’ refers to the place between Mainstream Rap Music and Underground Hip Hop. The emcee is the representative of their hood and they remember that by bringing a responsible maturity to the rap game. In this way, the emcee can have universal appeal yet still remain themselves… Rich with life experience, the ink is blood you use to prove your existence, evidence that your life means ‘something’ beyond material wealth…a ryhymesayah (rhyme-say-er) creates the word and It’s meanings.
II. Swordplay— “S†stands for spoken. Add that to ‘word’ sounds with meaning to get ‘sword’. Play is enjoying yourself. In nature, ‘play’ is a way animals learn skills needed to survive in adulthood. This suggest doing what you need to survive should be enjoyable. In Water HypHop. The discipline is the therapy is the weapon is the rhyme. Hence, the blade is “double-edged.†Hence, the name for this element is ‘swordplay.’ This involves making the sound visible in the listener’s mind either or, or all if the sound isn’t seen, the word is understood , the word is felt. In Water Hyphop, words crafted in the air or etched onto paper are the same. There are no separation between writing and freestyling. Graft-writing of traditional Hip hop fits in this description because the discipline of writing raps and freestyling paints a picture. The more a ryhymesayah feels what they write or recite; more or yourselph is expressed in your handwriting. How you write on the page is your signature that’s posted of for all to hear. Graft writers script their names visually until the final illustration is fully them.. Your tongue is your weapon to express pain, or your tool to express pleasure, Your pen is the tool to channel your energy. Your experience to the page, projecting and sculpting that monument of your life from a 2-dimensional canvas, expressing your creativity by truly proving yourselph in the hearts and minds of others. Thus, in playing with how your mind works, it sharpens the blade of your sword when you ‘right’ a ‘verse’; when you ‘resight’ a ryhyme… The rule for songwriting is this: the chorus is for the people, the verse is for the rhymesayah. This sword play element includes Emceeing & Graft-Writing in one...
III. Heartbeat— The rhythm is the core of music. The drum track is it’s ‘skeleton.’ The heartbeat is the steady rhythm that keeps the person alive. “Music†itself is the expression of it’s culture. Therefore, a ryhymesayah’s identity is created by their hood. The music that person creates is a reflection of their culture. The reason that person exist is because of their life experience is learned from their hood. Those skills that consistently work are the reason that person exists; those skills consistency is becomes the person’s ‘heartbeat’, the reason for that person’s existence. Sounds come from everywhere-everything, not just from vinyl as in DJ-ing Traditional Hip Hop. The goal of Water Hyphop is to keep the listener interested in the song, to actually listen/feel the words with emphasis on meaning-over-expression. To keep someone’s attention beyond the ‘12-to-16-bar-verse/ 6-to-8-bar-hook.’ Akapello is the trademark of emceeing, use your voice as an instrument. Samples raise the listener’s interest but true skill lies in just a drum track and the emcee. This elements includes Beat-Boxing, Dj-ing, and the making of instrumentals created using original samples and new formats…
IV. Hip Hop History— Hip Hop History that pertains to research, ‘memory of’, and circumstances involved in the birth of Hip Hop Culture, NOT popular culture. Hip Hop’s influence comes out of the Civil Rights Movement, the Cold War, Vietnam, and the Era of Soul Music. In 1969, The Last Poets song, ‘The Revolution Will Not Be Televised†set the standard for the lyrics reflecting a time of racism and heavy-political maneuvering. About that time, the building of the Cross-Bronx expressway caused the homelessness of a lot of people in one of the poorest ghettos in United States—Bronx, New York. Federal funding was cut from nation-wide inner city programs that supported arts, music, and education. The beats of Reggae and Disco were introduced by DJ Kool Herc, an immigrant from Kingston, Jamaica- broke out his turntables in the summer of 1970. Party shouts deejays used to hype the crowd became known as Emceeing, where the “lyrics†evolved when the MC learned multiple ways to “move-the-crowd’ with a message. African Bambaata organized the gang The Black Spades into the Zulu Nation. Later on through block parties and other ‘street’ events, he organized Hip-Hop into it’s primary elements: Emceeing, Beat-Boxing, Breaking, DJ-ing, and Graft-writing. The life of Blacks became new entertainment with Amiri Baraka leading the Black Arts Movement. Influence of Black Theatre switched from shakespearian speech and iamic pentameter to plain street-talk; it’s lyric format which was incorporated into songs. The flick Enter the Dragon broke the international barrier for martial arts films. As a result, with more importation of Kung Fu movies, martial arts moves heavily influenced the art of Breaking. The phrase, “Keep it Real,†includes the life lessons learned from “experience†instills the rule that you are what you speak or you will get tested on it. In short, Hip Hop was created out of a diverse melting pot of ‘working-class’ people cooperating through productive and artistic expression, which in turn, changed the negative perceptions of the neighborhood which is affected by the racial, economic and political events of that time. Thus due to these circumstances, Hip Hop is the only American-Born Culture. Water Hyphop traces it’s origins to 1969, the Year of Revolution, while obeying the roots of traditional hip hop culture through studying it’s origins, the circumstances which occurred to cause this art form to be born, and determine what is morally right and wrong as Hip Hop changed over time. …
V. StreetLore— One’s own legends, myths, fables, autobiographies—or purposeful and powerful storytelling—of themselves and their community that incorporate venting one’s emotions, expressing creativity illustrated in the form of life lessons…This element creates the community’s history according to the people…
VI. Hoodlamics In respecting the origins of Hip Hop, Water Hyp-Hop is based in the English Language. Still, learn and understand the way your kinfolk speak and use words. HoodLamics refers to the interaction of cultural laws in every community and use of vocabulary to exceeds its native origins. For instance, If a town is composed of Blacks, Arabs, Puerto Ricans, strive to speak Ebonics, Arabic, and Spanish. If your hood’s composed of Gods and Earths, Christians, Buddhists, and Mormon; make an attempt to learn their ways. Go to others to learn from them as tribune for their help; improving upon what you were taught. There is no racial category for words except from the culture those words originated from.. In Water HypHop, the founding element is Lyricism; strive over becoming a song writer, ascend to a linguist, and grow into a mature person. That way your individuality reps your hood in your actions, the way you speak is a tribune to your hood. Listen, taking note of how others talk, only increase your skills behind the microphone, expanding your perception beyond stereotypes and/or false assumptions by eliminating ignorance by getting to know the culture of individuals around you…
VII. Wardrobe— Your appearance and knowing what it means in every situation. Being aware that certain attire is specific to the situation, but the person puts their own flare to their apparel. Yet if you know the extent of the situation, their dress the way you want. Appropriately, this element is for you to be you and express that through your clothing or a unique brand label for every individual: “B-girl/ B-boy/ B-youâ€â€¦
VIII. Scramblin—
With this element, necessities-over-money. A person’s needs is more important than money. An individual cannot “eat†or “wear†dollar bills, yet obtaining dollars is the method for getting these things. Looking at society as a collection of symbols misinterprets life as a game. When that happens, disrespect for the wellbeing of others is discarded for the obtainment of “Devil’s Root†(word coined from the cliché: “the love of money is the root of all evilâ€.), of this phantom, of green pieces of paper with portraits of Dead Presidents. Accepting the decoration as the reality is the illusion. With that being said, scrambling is having Multiple ways to create income—by working smarter not harder—and street codes determine the most beneficial and quickest way between two points: a ‘straight-line.’ Controlling energy by thinking and reapplying it in the best manor is the way to achieve progress. In this case, thinking how monetary support yourselph for you being “you†and to never be blinded by your wants and by the desires of others, to become selph-reliant on one’s abilities rather than depend on providing a “service†for others…or acting as a “slaveâ€â€¦IX. Braekin— Total freedom and control of your body. Your physical is the ‘gravity chamber’, yet through the expression of exercise, dance, and Martial Arts, braekin is your escape. The point is to incorporate body language into your performance. The point of this element is to build a huge vocabulary of Body language: “B-girl/ B-boy/ B the style rather than using itâ€â€¦
X. Cypha— Cypha is the incorporation of all ten elements of Water Hyphop into one—it is not Water Hyphop if any element is taken out of the context of the whole; the element becomes something ‘else’, something ‘other’ and something ‘weaker’. The loop will be broken; the cypha will collapse, the person is only a person, NOT a ryhymesayah, NOT an emcee. Selph is who you’ve become; inside “you†the elements combine to create “your unique styleâ€. I exists because we are; NOT I think therefore I am; ‘Immortality’- to be remembered- ‘I am mortal’ or ‘I’m-mortal’. The ‘one’ and ‘all’ is never separated…Therefore, THE MUSIC IS NEVER SEPARATED FROM THE NATIVE CULTURE THAT CREATED IT…
