Oakland, Ca. native Lara Karuna has been performing since age eight when she was cast in Bay Area Theater's production of the musical Annie.
Since being in Los Angeles she has worked with such heavy-hitting talents as Kanye West, grammy winning producer Scott Storch (Christina Aguilera, Pink, Beyonce, Dr. Dre), Grammy winning producers, The Funktwons, A.K.A, Tim N Bob (Mary J. Blidge, Brandy, and Bobby Valentino) and producer Mike City (Usher, Brandy, Sunshine Anderson, Carl Thomas). She has performed the National Anthem both for a Clippers basketball game and more recently at the Maddbacker's Celebrity Basketball Game. She has also toured with Blacklicious, opening for such acts as Ben Harper, Maceo Parker, and De la Soul. As a songwriter she wrote and performed the chorus for Aceleyone's song "The Good, the Bad, the Ugly," as well as "Lil Tupac" a song featured in the movie "My Baby's Daddy."
Preparing to release her debut album, Not 4 Sale, which she both wrote and produced, Karuna goes one step further than strong musicianship and catchy melodies. She moves people! With heartfelt lyrics, driving guitars and tight, crowd shouting choruses, this belting vocalist brings her serious stage chops, and honest music to every performance. Pulling an average of 200 people per show, Karuna, once called the "ghetto Janis Joplin," has performed her fiery brand of rock/soul coined "urban rock" at such renowned venues as: The Roxy, Temple Bar, The Highlands, Little Temple, The Gig and many more. With a growing fan base, and an album set for release in late April, Karuna is an artist to watch out for!
