PEACE!

About Me

Born and raised KENNY BUFORD in Noo Yawk between Wyandanch, Long Island and Fort Greene, Brooklyn. I was given the name KARIM BAQI ALI by a family friend and decided to change it legally two years ago.The Genesis: I remember one night, my sister and I snuck in the basement and listened to Richard Pryor's "That Nigger's Crazy." We laughed all night long. The next day, I was watching "Sanford & Son" as I always did, bogarting the TV on Friday night on NBC @ 8PM EST/7Central. The episode that night was written by Richard Pryor and Paul Mooney. It was at that moment, I knew I wanted to be a writer. So after growing up a child of television and Hip Hop (and finishing high school), I decided to go to Howard University. I stayed there for about twenty-seven minutes and fifty thousand parties. The Revelation: I got involved in some things that found me in some trouble. But after I got back on my feet, I decided to come to L.A. to chase my dreams. When I got to Cali, it was not a good time. One night, while driving around with a friend, I saw a long line outside of a movie theater for a movie called "She's Gotta have It." I saw the movie and I recognized this skinny dude named Spike Lee from around the way who used to always watch us play ball in the park. All this changed my plans. I was on the next thing smoking back to En Why! I got back to NY and got a job working at Radio Shack at 1 World Trade Center. One day, one of my co-workers told me that Spike was gonna be at Howard for homecoming. I decided to go to homecoming (which was not a difficult sell even if Spike wasn't gonna be there). I saw Spike at a party he was throwing and he gave me a job selling t-shirts with his cousin (my BOY!) Malcolm Lee, great director and great brother (as is Spike). After the party, Spike said give him a call on Monday. I did and I had a job cleaning the offices of 40 Acres & A Mule by Tuesday. My first movie was "Do The Right Thing" where I became good friends with my man Martin Lawrence. We promised that whoever blew up first would reach back and put the other one on. That would happen in the not-so-distant future. After I left Spike and 40 Acres, I went to Yo! MTV Raps thanks to Ted Demme (my man), Penny McDonald (running things at BET), and Jac Benson (doing it all over MTV, VH1). During this time, Martin was getting ready to come to Noo Yawk to host a show called "Def Comedy Jam" and he wanted me to write some material with him; we did and the show was a huge hit! Martin then got his own sitcom and asked me to come write for it, but I was happy at MTV (ignorance is bliss), so I passed. Can you believe I put my dreams off to stay at MTV?! Eventually, Martin convinced me to come visit him in Cali and after seeing everything out here, I was sold. I moved to Los Anjealous on March 3, 1993...one week after the first World Trade Center bombings. I started out as a Staff Writer on "Martin" and was Co-Executive Producer when the show ended. Easily, the best "job" I have ever had! Way too much fun and worked with good people! I also was a Producer on "You So Crazy"; Produced both of Martin's comedy albums "Talkin' Sh*t" and "Funk It!" (Grammy-nominated); and co-wrote "A Thin Line Betwen Love & Hate". After "Martin", I wrote for Jamie Foxx (Thanks Bent & Foxx), The Wayans Brothers, and Method & Red (I put Method Man on TV for the first time on an episode of "Martin" I wrote and we've been close ever since; he and Doc are two of my faorite people). I also wrote for The Lyricist Lounge Show, Doggy Fizzle Televizzle, Method & Red's Guide to The Playboy Mansion, How High, Shaquille O'Neal's "Steel", and a bunch of pilots that never made it on air. I am currently on Nick Cannon Presents Wild 'N Out...another way-too-fun show! Now you know some of WHAT I have done. If you wanna know WHO I am, ask me and I'll tell you anything and everything you wanna know...but you gotta tell me the same. Deal or No Deal?

My Interests

Living for today interests me. Yesterday, with all of its good and bad, is gone forever. Tomorrow is from the world of the unknown. So all we have is today. If you knew that today was your last day, what would be important to you? The answer to that question is how we should live our lives everyday. Do everything as if it's the last time you will do it! Pray as if it's your farewell prayer. Pray as if God is watching you...and He is. The greatest griefs are those we cause ourselves. Life is easy. We make it hard.

I'd like to meet:

Well-mannered, polite, peaceful, unselfish, intelligent, articulate, clean, creative people who give their word and stick to it...and (in no particular order): Ray Bradbury, Neil Simon, Richard Wesley, Sly Stone, Marvelous Marvin Hagler, and my wife.
