The Biography of D. Hunter
Born in Madison, Georgia, Demetrius "D" Hunter had a natural-born affinity for "running his mouth" even before he could crawl, says his mother. The grandson of a Baptist Minister, Hunter was also raised in a family blessed with strong spiritual values.Taking these factors into account, it seems only natural that today, Hunter is a promising rap artist within the gospel-singing community. Nevertheless, the road to praising God through his music was not as straight or as certain as one would think.Hunter's musical career began while he was still a high school student. He moved to Columbus, Ohio with his mother, which is where he first become involved with the music industry, establishing himself as the rap artist, "Sweet Daddy" at age 15.In his freshman year of high school, Hunter returned to Madison but ultimately went back to Ohio to resume his career, doing radio spots for advertisers and performing on local television as an upcoming rap artist.Finally, he moved back to Georgia, enjoying continuing success as a rap artist in Atlanta. It was here that he signed with a local record label in 1996.The music that he was performing was hard core hip hop. Hunter was well-known in the Southeast, but for some reason he was still unhappy. He wanted to start doing more positive music. Following the death of both his grandmother and father, Hunter returned to God. He started studying the word on his own, and it came to him that God blessed him with this talent. He began to use it to serve God. He presented a song to his record label, "This Is My Prayer, " but the record label rejected it. It was not hard core enough - it was not happening. But they told him if he took Jesus' name out of the song, they would release it.Nevertheless, Hunter's faith in conveying a more positive message in his music was unshakable. He felt strong about the song and the way he wanted to serve God. He then asked the record label to release him.Released from his record label, Hunter was on his own. He established his own record label - Bless Records, which involved placing the ministry over "the industry." One can only go along for so long doing what everyone else wants you to do. Hunter kept his perspective. He used his music as his ministry to appeal to those who do not know Christ. His music does not merely entertain but teaches the word of God.Hunter began serving God by presenting his ministry at churches, schools and other organizations. "This Is My Prayer" was played on one Sunday morning radio gospel show. The response to the song was so great that he knew that he was doing what God wanted him to do.Hunter's music speaks to individuals who cannot be reached through traditional church or religion. It is tailored for those who do not know Christ. It offers an introduction to him through a creative and innovative means.Hunter is a teacher who ministers through music which combines scripture, poetic verse and rhythmic beats. His music is autobiographical. The issues he addresses speaks to problems all face. Further, he offers the solution - a personal relationship with Christ.
Hunter's music appeals to consumers who would purchase rap or dance music. However, what separates his music from the norm is that it offers the positive message of introducing its audience to Christ.
He is no longer a rebel for the devil, but now uses the gift that God gave him to minister to the saved and unsaved and uplift the kingdom of God.
