On paper Starch is a four piece riff-oriented alternative rock band; live Starch is a sonically huge experience. Starch features big guitar sound, monster bass grooves, eclectic keyboards, and thundering drums that support introspective lyrics.
These are the five common ingredients that make up the recipe for what Starch has been cooking since 1996. But like a first-class chef will tell you, anyone can assemble ingredients; not everyone can cook.
Starch has an ability to connect in a rare and special way that happens as a result of playing together for over a decade. Call it chemistry, skill, or a combination of the two, Starch features the ability to instinctively play off each other without preconceived ideas, perform their songs with conviction, and treat audiences to an energetic and compelling live performance.
Starch’s pedigree is an impressive list of Seacoast New Hampshire heavies including Jon McCormick, Fly Spinach Fly; Drew Wyman, Thanks to Gravity; Jamie Perkins Biscuithead; and Sean LaRose, Museum of Science. Starch was founded by McCormick and Perkins as a creative outlet side project and developed into a regular live act. Currently the four members of Starch are actively playing in other regional bands including Museum of Science, Camarojuana, Famous, and NOWisNOW.
More important than any resume is the band’s ability to connect musically with each other and collectively with the audience. Even Dr. Atkins has confessed - Starch is delicious.
