CORALEENA
Musical aspirations began at an early age for songstress Coraleena Ellis (Carol), and having spent time between the UK and US her influences conclude a versatile edge. Coraleena’s interest and music abilities didn’t appear unnoticed to her family who sent her to piano lessons when she was 10 years old, but singing was always her first love. Her mother was a minister at the Pentecostal church in East Orange NJ and it was there Coraleena put her vocal chords in to practise with choirs, but would privately listen and learn to mainstream music genres.
During this period Coraleena was studying business management at college, and in 1982 she returned to her birth home in the UK where she began to take on a professional approach to her music ambitions. Manager and producer Les Cliff mentored Coraleena with vocal training as well music business during her two year stay in the UK, but she later returned to the US to continue a venture of putting her business knowledge into practice by setting up her own company in real estate.
Although she secured a successful business musical aspirations persisted and later got the better of her in 2005 where Coraleena went back to the UK and recorded Rose Royce classic, ‘Wishing On A Star’, with the help of a friend. Since then Coraleena’s musical venture speaks volume, with her versatile style of Lovers Rock, Reggae, R&B, Neo Soul and influences from the likes of Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin and Jennifer Holiday, Coraleena has perfected a work of artistry.
It wasn’t long after this that a charity for mental disabilities, The Lost Artists, asked Coraleena to feature on their album, ‘Forgotten Artists’. She then formed with a local group called Moonbuggy where she became their backing singer, and later released her first EP, ‘Never Too Late’, which is a compilation of songs she wrote that year.
To date Coraleena has been showcasing her talent across venues including Peppermint Lounge in the US, Asian Mela, Rverside Festival, The Maze, Nottingham Carnival, Arboretum, Ilford Unity Festival and various community festivals and charity events across the UK.
The musical agenda for 2008 is looking prosperous with plenty of projects underway and forthcoming Reggae EP, Coraleena Ellis has set her goals and is ready to introduce her first love, Music.
