John Draper (a.k.a. Captain Crunch)

Yes, it's me, the real John Draper.

About Me

1) Consulting - I am experienced in migrating people from WinBlows to UNIX for their .NET applications.
2) Speaking - As a speaker and presenter of security issues people need to be aware of - covered mostly by CrunchTV.
3) Teaching - By having online high level classes and training through the web to teach enterprises on how to secure their networks, and charge $$$ for it.
4) Protecting - For parents who have their sons and daughters on MySpace, let me show you how you can protect your children from predators and other nasties.
My main focus in targeting MySpace users is my ability to teach yor family about some very simple steps you can do to protect your family members identity and privacy...
* Use a Throwaway Email address when responding to telemarketing or marketing web sites.
* Keep your family Email secret and it should contain combinations of characters that are un-guessable by the Dictionary attacks people use to extract your Email for spamming and other things.
* Put your home network on a router. A simple consumer router like a Netgear or other WEB SAFE router is all you need to protect your home network.
* Never click on attachments you get in your Email, not even if it comes from someone you know. If you DO get an attachment from someone you know, then call or Email him and ask him if he sent you the attachment.
* Setup your home computer such that it's impossible to open or run attachments.
If I get enough response and requests, I can have and setup an online forum for families to "join in" and participate in these discussions on planned dates far in advance.
And of course you can download CrunchTV from ITunes or crunchtv.net to view important instructional material your family will find entertaining and also view the GingerbreadTV program which also focuses on family programming for your children.
I'm also available for speaking at your school or organization on security tips, great phone phreak stories, and other issues of the day. Please contact my agent for availability and dates.

My Interests

Burning Man, dancing, science fiction, music, reading, dancing at rave parties, clubbing (but not so recently), working out, doing Yoga, and going to healing retreats.

I'd like to meet:

People interested in Internet security, VoIP, programming, or computer history. In particular, I want to meet any independent musician and invite them to join my blog. We plan to have an open discussion on ideas ojn how to streamline the distribution of songs, video's and other entertainment. If you're a streaming radio station operator frustrated by the fact you may have to go "off the air" due to the draconian laws soon to be passed, forcing stations to pay a steep royalty. We have a solution to this, and not only that, but it will spawn a larger variety of music for all, and give more power to the musician.

Music:

Kandice Melonakos and many other independent and talented musicians. In particular, I like the old "doo wap" oldies, Psychedelic Trance, Goa Trance, happy hardcore, and New Age music as well as meditation music when I'm doing Yoga.Music has been a large part of my life, I grew up learning to play the piano, so I can read music and know the keyboard, and someday, hope to get access to a MIDI studio, to produce my own tunage.

Movies:

scifi, documentaries involving animals( I love alligators and snozzle-snoots), nature, and other really neat movies..

Television:

Scifi Channel, History Channel, Discovery Channel, National Graphics channel, and any channel that provides rich information and educational content.

Books:

I read mostly Sci-fi books.

Heroes:

Steve Wozniak, Tolga Katas, are my biggest heros.
