Music:
Jazz, blues, bluegrass, swing, rockabilly, heavy metal, ambient, you name it. I like everything except contemporary "big radio" country. And most opera. If it's coming from a pickup truck with testicles hanging from the trailer hitch, or it's wailing and gnashing over orchestra in a language I am only familiar with in passing, then I am either too sophisticated, or not sophisticated enough to enjoy it.
Movies:
Almost anything directed by the Coen Brothers, Stanley Kubrick, Ridley Scott, David Cronenberg, Quentin Tarantino, Robert Rodriguez, Steven Speilberg, Francis Ford Coppola, David Lynch, Tim Burton, and many more.I love a well-realized film, from pre-production to post, and well lit, photographed, written, acted and directed in between.I love a good (to me) comedy.And occasionally I enjoy a good effects movie with absolutely no brain cells required to enjoy, whether action, horror, or whatever else.
Television:
Not so much. I like most every original series the F/X network has ever produced, but I'm too cheap to pay for the premium movie channels because I buy all the movies I like on DVD and miss out on all that original programming.
Books:
I read nearly anything I can get my hands on. I read shampoo bottles and cosmetics jars while sitting on the pot. I especially enjoy anything written intelligently, cleverly, humorously, or with an open mind.
Heroes:
Both of my biological grandfathers. One never smoked or drank and lived an unimpeachable life. The other smoked and drank himself to an early grave. I am so much like both of them that it's almost easy to believe in astrology (I am a Pisces - two fish swimming in opposite directions).
