About Me

I regularly dish up my social soul rants and rhymes at a variety of places across the UK (and sometimes Canada) - at spoken word events, slams, and quiet please thank you ma'am performance nights and days - in libraries, bars, theatres, tents, longhouses, radio studios, parks, upstairs pub rooms, clubs, coffeeshops, basements and backyards...with a microphone and without, for anywhere between one and one thousand people, regardless of weather, all together now - one two three - have words, have voice, will travel. As well as an assortment of self-published materials, anthologised stories and poems, and articles scattered across various websites and magazines, I have just had my first collection of poems published by someone other than me. Yes. It's called Knee High Affairs, and is available from Crocus Books, the Basement in Manchester, or from me.

My Interests

live performance and lit of the word spitting large fitting don't stand still behind the microphone let me hear the breath from back of your throat variety - remote locations and extreme weather - bikes and hi-vis vests - bladesmiths, blacksmiths, wordsmiths - anyone who makes me think once, think twice - the sound of cracking ice - stripped down twang, garbage can raw beats, aural treats - the scratch for itchy feet - old people of all ages - well-worn pages - the horn section - maps and stopped clock faces - clumsy graces and quirks in the corners of the eyes - prairie-wide skies and ocean-size saltwater licks - tricks of the light - red kites - fire filled nights - wooly tights - queers of all flavours and anyone who's ever been unsure of their noun, description, or which box they should (or shouldn't) tick

I'd like to meet:

Creative people of all persuasions who are not afraid to speak the inside out - with bad hair days, spinach in the teeth days, days of imperfect structure and full-flavour uncertainty.

Music:

Mood dependant - excluding only elevator muzac in all instances, though especially when it's an orchestra-lite version of 'Michelle' by the Beatles.

Books:

books books...I'm a slow eager reader who needs long train journeys and cold nights with broken heating for novels. Soft spots = poetry, short stories, zines, comics and letters.
