About Me
At Rest is comprised of 5 individuals seeking to establish themselves as a profound musical force within the heavy music community. Through their 3 years in existence the band has gotten a taste of both ends of the spectrum; from disappointment and failure, to victory in all its forms, and everything in between. The band withholds only two original members (Phil Fontana, & Mike Newman) since its inception and has endured countless shifts in musical styles, goals, ambitions, and lineup changes.
For a year and a half the band crawled up and down the state and the Northeast in 2 cars playing countless shows and in their wake, gaining a solid and loyal fan base that has the upmost respect and admiration for these 5 individuals sacrificing everything they had to get out there and show the crowd a good time. The summer of 2006 saw the addition of vocalist Jimmy Allan and an enormous amount of shows throughout New Jersey. The band was in high demand throughout the state in multiple counties and spent every weekend playing somewhere new, gaining momentum with every show. They had networked and promoted their way into gaining acceptance into the seemingly impenetrable heavy music community of New Jersey. The band got their first taste of touring in July of 2006 for a week in New England which was enough to confirm their goal to become a full-time touring band.
The band has recorded numerous pre-production releases at various studios throughout New Jersey for a year and a half and in the summer of 2006, began writing for their first formal EP. During the writing process the band participated in “The Crusade†Battle of The Bands Competition hosted by Max Cruise in the fall of 2006 and included bands from all over the tri-state area. After 3 grueling rounds, the band finished in 1st place overall in the competition granting them a prime spot on that years SAINTS AND SINNERS FESTIVAL in October 2006 in Asbury Park, New Jersey which included ( Killswitch Engage, Through The Eyes Of The Dead, Job For A Cowboy, Unearth, All That Remains, Despised Icon, Atreyu and Bleeding Through) After riding high on the their victory and their packed performance on the Paramount Theatre Stage, the band made their final preparations before entering the studio in January of 2007 with Mike Turner at Underground Sound Studios (SLIPKNOT, SICK OF IT ALL, CYPRESS HILL, HATEBREED, FULL BLOWN CHAOS, SEPULTURA, ONYX, TYPE-O-NEGATIVE, MINDLESS SELF INDULGENCE, KITTIE, LIFE OF AGONY, BIOHAZARD, SUICIDE CITY, SPOILER NYC, BLOODCLOT, STIGMA) in South Amboy, New Jersey. The EP was titled “To Document the Deceasedâ€. It was released online in the spring of 2007 and was available online for Download shortly after.
Following the release of the EP, the band trekked over 1,200 miles total to Westland, Michigan in May of 2007 to perform at the first annual BLEDFEST which included (The Black Dahlia Murder, Animosity, The Faceless, Beneath the Massacre, and As Blood Runs Black). In June the band was a last minute addition to INFEST at the Crocodile Rock in Allentown, Pennsylvania. The festival included (Necrophagist, Decapitated, Cephalic Carnage, Cattle Decapitation, The Faceless, As Blood Runs Black, Ion Dissonance, Arsis, Beneath the Massacre, and Daath). In July, the band set out to complete a 3 week tour of the Northeast and Midwest which included a couple of dates with My Children My Bride in the Midwest and upon returning home, set to work beginning the writing process for their latest release. During the writing process the band saw the departure of Sal Mautone and Marco Carrasco, and was graced with the addition of Dan Ladin on guitar, and Charlie Busacca on bass guitar. They recently dove headfirst into a recording session in March after only a few rehearsals to record their sophomore release at The Machine Shop (Every Time I Die, The Banner, Lamb of God, Haste The Day, Boys Night Out, Clutch) in Jersey City/Weehawken, New Jersey with Producer/Engineer Will at the controls. The songs are now available online and are being featured in the bands live set.
For the time being, the band has been perfecting their live show through hours of rehearsals in the middle of the night and have been laying low while attending to financial responsibilities within the band that are necessary for their growth and progression. The summer holds a lot in store for At Rest such as the pressing and formal release of their 2008 Demo which has yet to be titled, as well as a two month tour of the United States and Canada in support of the release. Until they leave in July, the band will be playing shows every weekend in the Northeast Region. Merchandise will be unveiled and available for purchase shortly before their departure for their summer tour.
In its 3 years of existence, At Rest has never seen 5 individuals so closely knit and determined to achieve their goals. They’ve worked to establish a family with common goals and aspirations. They work together like a machine to get what needs to be done completed quickly and efficiently. The band is more goal oriented and focused than ever and each and every member is willing to sacrifice everything they have to achieve the level of success they desire. These individuals will stop at nothing, and nobody to continue working to earn what they feel is rightfully theirs.
