About Me
My name is Jon King, and I've been singing and writing songs since I was 13 years old. I also play the rhythm guitar . I guess you could say I grew up listening to hair bands, groups like Poison, Motley Crue, Twisted Sister, even some heavier stuff like Ozzy and Metallica. One of my favorite bands has always been FireHouse, they can rock, and they also write great ballads. I've always liked Survivor and Journey too, real commercial 80's rock stuff. Growing up, my best friend was a drummer. Bill Lee, man was he a great drummer! I think his idol was Neil Peart from Rush. His band needed a singer so I filled in, and the rest as they say...is history. When I was about 18 or so I joined a band called Painted Angel with members Ken and Jay from New Wave Nation. Then I met Clint Wolf currently the singer and guitarist of the Texas Toast band where we teamed up in the band Next Exit. A couple of years later when I was about 21, I formed my own original band "King's Ransom",where I sang, played guitar, and wrote all the songs. That band gave me a chance to hone my songwriting skills. When Nirvana and Pearl Jam took over the rock scene, it just didn't have alot to say to me . Country music seemed to have the heart that the rock scene was lacking and wasn't as dark and depressing. I started listening to Garth Brooks, Toby Kieth, Tracy Lawrence, Collin Raye, Travis Tritt and alot of other great country artists. It was at this time, I met my wife Sharon. And I shifted my focus from music to a family. I am very happily married, and Sharon, my two girls Sydney and Hailey, and stepson Christian are the focal point of my life. I am also an avid Cleveland Browns fan. As hobby, I've always loved singing and writing songs on my cheapie acoustic guitar, sometimes even imagining my songs totally in my head when I didn't own a guitar and wasn't in a band. ( I've got a new electric guitar now.) Eventually I had to go with my heart and get back to making music. I started writing some new songs, all of which come from my own life experiences to one degree or another. Thanks to a local producer/ guitar player/ you name it, Chris Wintrip, I was able to record what I consider to be my best recordings to date, my first album in my 20 year flirtation with the music industry, "Better Late Than Never". The songs came out alittle more rock than country due to the fact theres no steel guitar, fiddle or banjo, but people seem to like 'em just the way they are. I poured my heart and soul into the writing and recording of these songs. Hope you guys like 'em. I really love my fans and try hard to never ignore them. They really help keep me go'n. I'm not sure if I'll ever make it big, but I'm gonna give this music thing one more try. After all... I've got Noth'n To Lose!!!
