Watching cool bands perform live. Hiking through nature's scenic wonders. Silent movies. Snakes. Old time radio. Giant redwood trees. Clif Builder bars. Niles Canyon. The banjo. Watching pro bull riders on cable TV. Gelato. Rain and fog. My motorcycle boots. Doonesbury. Mendocino. Snap peas. Brunettes with bangs. Cult movies. The surf, ska and rockabilly stations on AOL Radio. Truckee. Girls in vintage clothing. True crime stories. Chocolate mousse. People with retro style. Dr. Bronner's Magic Soaps. A deep rumblin', twangin', reverbin' guitar. Art nouveau. Art deco. Oatmeal cookies. 1950s EC comics. San Francisco history. Giant waves crashing against giant rocks. Burning incense until the smoke detector goes off. Almost anything that's appalling. Butta-beepa-da-boppa-da-boop.
Everyone apearing in my Upcoming Shows Calendar (see below)! And everybody else who has the good taste to come to these shows! Each of these bands carries my personal stamp of approval, so step right up, neighbors! You can't lose!
Pop-punk, ska, surf and rockabilly! Especially rockabilly. And ragtime. The music of the 1920s and '30s. Old reggae and rocksteady. Western swing. Hillbilly boogie of the '40s and early '50s. Old-time string bands. Pretty much everything that's wildly unpopular right now. And I still like the same '80s new wave and alternative stuff that I liked way back when, before Nirvana came along and ruined everything.
I usually either watch cult-type movies I nearly know by heart (HAROLD AND MAUDE, GOODFELLAS, THE BLUES BROTHERS, THE BLAIR WITCH PROJECT, EL TOPO, STRANGER THAN PARADISE), or vintage movies, the older the better. I love silents and Pre-Codes, but I'm up for almost anything from the golden age. I'm also into pre-1935 B-westerns, no matter how bad they are.
MY NAME IS EARL. THE OFFICE. REAL TIME WITH BILL MAHER. BIG LOVE. ENTOURAGE. SCRUBS. NIP/TUCK. PINKS. Bull riding on the Versus channel. Anything with giant, dangerous reptiles in it.
