In late 2006 a group of young, talented musicians, all busy doing their own thing on the London scene, came together via mutual friendships and a common love for good live music.
Drummer, Mehdi Langroodi, and guitarist, Tom Maine, had been working together on various projects for a few years, some of which involved soulful vocalist Michael Kamara. During many late night jams at London's musically renowned Troy Bar, they came across two outstanding, young musicians: bassist, Chris Webb, a fond regular at the jam and Alexei Elfenbein, the keys player in the house band "Word Of Mouth".
On realising they shared common passions and aspirations, they decided to form a band, swiftly picked up as the house band for the Foote's Groove Jam, a monthly event sponsered by Foote's music shop.
Since the fast growing popularity of this event as a result of the house band, Nexus started getting booked for many high class London gigs, including the after party for "007 Casino Royale" premier. Nexus also held a residency at the prestigious Glass bar (Paper club) on Regent Street from 2006-07.
Later down the line Alexei decided to move on and pursue his bass playing and production skills. Local based singer/song writer and Keys player Dave Landers soon filled the void helping the band push forward with writing and recording.
During the evolution of Nexus, they've have had the pleasure and experience of playing, learning and growing with some vastly talented individuals including Adanna Jude, Ella James, Tara Brown and of course their dear brother Alexei Elfenbein. They'd also like to shout out to Cherri V, James Titshall, Asha Elfenbein and Ahava for all being great people they've worked with and learnt from!!! LOVE!!!
Recently Nexus got full sponsorship of London based custom clothing company (Cobey Clothing Inc.), to add to this Nexus also picked up a full time DJ, Mr.L who plays at most of their performances to warm up the crowd and continue the party after! The newest joining member of the "Nexus Family" is official photographer Minh Ai!
As well as gigging constantly around London, Nexus are currently writing and recording what promises to be the UK's freshest live soul music!
