Indie artist White Stone is here to be your dealer. "Music, in my own estimation," says Marc Cancassi of White Stone, "is nature's ultimate high." So when you want a real buzz and substance in your music, then tune in and turn on to White Stone. "There is probably no greater state of mind, regarding the ability to enjoy music,with the exception of being in love." This act strives to bring not only creative values but also intelligent art to the table. On the fun side of things, White Stone plays indie rock that is emotive and potent but also imbued with a certain wry smirk, music engages the listener through its attitude. On the intelligent side of things, Cancassi says that he tries hard to include a message in song. "To be honest, I make every attempt to provide a message in my songs, whether verbally or musically." Smart and distinct song constructs mingle with thoughtful lyricism to make for music with depth both composi- ionally and conceptually. But White Stone allows all these things to flow freely from the creative process, never attempting to force things. "I feel it's integral for the songs to be organic and free. Music, because it is nearly an entity in and of itself, needs to breathe, just as you and I." You could think of White Stone as a sort of partnership between people and music. If music is an entity, then it has joined hands with Cancassi and White Stone to reach out to listeners, offering not only fun but something to chew on mentally. "I feel obligated as an artist to do my best to better society." White Stone does this in multiple ways. For one thing, the universe is always better off with music playing somewhere, especially good music. In addition, White Stone uses the value of great songwriting as a hook to pull listeners in to messages that are vital and to which everybody can relate. Cancassi has expressed his desire to do this to reach not only listeners today but to provide a "time capsule" for future fans. Good music has longevity and White Stone's music will be around for quite a while. White Stone has been working for a long time and has left its mark all over the place. "Having been a touring artist since the mid-80s, I have played almost every rock venue in New York City." For example, White Stone was one of the many great artists to take the stage at the gone-but-not-forgotten CBGB's, having done shows there several times. White Stone even made it to television with its song "Seasons" appearing on a "Port of Call" episode. They also have had the opportunity to audition for one of many Paul McCartney engineers in the early 80's. Not to mention the fact they have actually had their debut cd pass through the hands of none other than New Jersey's number one musical son.Finally, Cancassi is a published author, having witnessed the printing of two of his stories,"The Nephilim" and also "Bagels and..."
