About Me

Hello, my name is Robert Shi (pronounced SHY). I am a graduate of Berklee College of Music and a professional drummer and I am always open to new recording and/or gigging situations. I am interested in music where the song is served first and foremost...Song–Oriented Rock, Pop, Alternative, Alt. Country, etc.....More on my musical background below in the BAND MEMBERS section....I also own Drummer's First Aid Kit, a provider of Books, CD's, Lessons, T-Shirts, Wisdom and more for drummers. My books and CDs have received great reviews and press from Dom Famularo, Jim Chapin, Rikki Rockett, Modern Drummer, Drum! Magazine, P.A.S. Percussive Notes and many more. For more info on my books, CDS, lessons, and to purchase, please visit http://www.drummersfirstaidkit.com....I started my first teaching practice, Drumlab, in a Boston rehearsal space in 1988. In 1992 I moved it to Raleigh, NC, where it prospered, becoming NC's largest and most in-demand drum lesson facility. In 2005, I sold Drumlab to one of my employees in order to devote more time to actually teaching drum lessons & to the writing of my 5th instructional book for drummers, Drummer's First Aid Kit....I have relationships with Paiste Cymbals, Aquarian Drumheads and Vic Firth drumsticks and I thank them for their support. I built my drumsets myself (and can help you do the same)....In order to fulfill my desire to give something back to the community, I've been a Volunteer Firefighter/Medical Responder for the last several years and in 2004 was honored with Chatham County Station 8's Firefighter of the Year award....Outside of music, my interests include architecture, design, woodworking, kayaking, and the great outdoors...I also have a major weakness for Jeep vehicles (preferably with black rims), although I've had a couple, I am, sadly, between Jeeps right now....I am an Eagle Scout and I believe that Scouting was a crucial part of my youth and my development....All my artistic pursuits would not be possible without the support of my wonderful family and extended family, including my wife, Jennifer, and two great kids, Samuel and Caroline (and 2 Vizslas Scout and Ranger). We live on 22 acres on the Deep River, in a small town in Chatham Co., just outside of the Raleigh/Chapel Hill, NC. ...
