The idea of The Red Phantom, came about in mid 2003 when a few friends stumbled upon an encyclopedia of files and facts about serial killers. In Blood Letter and Bad Men, by Jay Robert Nash, we were introduced to a world shadowed from the eyes of the public. Every page we read, lead to a new story of murder and maiming, each killer more devastating than the last. Our main objective was not to glorify serial killers, but to make people more aware of them. A murder is committed every five seconds and countless people die at the hands of killers everyday. Rather than promote these sick individuals, we decided our first album's concept would reflect our reaction to these findings which lead to "What's a Little Death?".After that we decided we needed to change the style of our music. With a lineup change, it was more than necessary. And that led to the second concept album "Zombie Survival Kit", which was about...ZOMBIES! The idea of being in that scenario along with numerous classic films was enough incentive to record a new album. There were plenty of obstacles in it's creation but it still remained true to our intentions. Just remember that zombies don't wear condoms. Now the that the lineup was stable we had a chance to hone our sound as a band. The difference is very obvious when listening to each of the albums, yet at the same time very much still "The Red Phantom". The third and newest album's concept is "Marvel's Greatest Battles". Our obsession with comic books provided sufficient insperation and material to make our new favorite album. Each member of The Red Phantom picked some of our favorite classic stories from the Marvel universe and wrote accordingly. As much fun we had recording this album, it's definitely more fun to play it live with our friends and family. All the while The Red Phantom has been about being original. And with this came the idea of being an instrumental band. We've stuck with it 'til this very day, and are completely happy with our decision. Although we do get the regular, "Hey do you guys want a singer?". Followed by the impromptu auditions of many a drunkard at almost every show we play; sadly, no. We do not need a singer and never will. Being instrumental offers quite a challenge, but we seem to have met it head on wherever and whenever tested. The Red Phantom continues to write new material and play as many live shows wherever, and whenever they can. The new album in the works is not yet titled, but it's contents will consist of songs about monsters! Some classic, some obscure and seldom heard of. But that is still a project in the works. Look for us to be playing a show in your neighborhood very soon! The Red Phantom
