Abyss was born William Honesty in the Erie Avenue section of north Philadelphia. He was brought up in a musical family. His mother jazz musician Monnette Sudler had Abyss on stage in the womb. At a young age Abyss began to play the drums and other various instruments around the house. However, at the age of nine he found a new passion, Hip-hop. In 2000, Abyss began to produce songs for various underground artists. Abyss produced 8 full-length albums between 2002-2004.
Being surrounded by music all his life, it allows Abyss to go beyond the normal sound. He has had the opportunity to perform in many different parts of the world. His stage performance has blossomed and captured audiences of thousands. Some places he has performed are: Paris, France (Nov.’05), The Turks & Caicos Islands (the BET festival’06), Orlando, Florida ‘(05-‘06), New York (‘02), Philadelphia, Buffalo, Gettysburg, Pa and many other venues. These experiences have molded his music to global standards.
Abyss’s sound is reminiscent of early 80’s funk with a twist of soulful hip-hop and R&B. Over the years Abyss has accumulated more than 182 songs and still counting to date. He has released 7 underground mix CD’s: “The Hill vol.1†(‘02), “Gun of the year “(‘03), “Anger Management “(‘03), “The Path 2 greatness†(‘03), “The Movement “(‘04), “Straight Gutter†(‘05), and “The American rival†(‘05-‘06). In 2002 Abyss released an underground album entitled “Reality is…†This work was collaboration with North Philadelphia artist Scarf. This was the first full length album Abyss produced and released through his independent label The Hill entertainment/Ride out Inc.
He is currently in the studio recording is debut solo project. While producing for many other artists Abyss blends different genres to produce an individual sound.
