90's band 'The Affection' developed from a songwriting partnership between Linda McGuire and Mike Spencer during the time both worked at Rick Buckler's (The Jam) Arkantide recording studio in London. Linda began as lead singer however soon started writing melodic & lyrical material that she felt would be better suited to an alternate vocal style, which led to the aquisition of Gillian Grace Wisdom on lead vocals and Mark Nicholl Pierson on Drums and percussion. Mike, Linda and Mark pulled resources and set up a tiny studio in in a dingy Old Street building in 1990 from where The Affection songs were written and produced. In the early days Linda adopted the role of in house Band Manager, organising gigs, radio press etc and eventually attracting the attention of Marcus Russell at Ignition Management by 1992. Under the wing of Ignition, 'Heaven Found' was released on Hullabaloo with a follow up single scheduled for recording at Peter Gabriel's Real World Studios in the West Country. This would prove to be a make or break opportunity with disagreements and divisions in direction surfacing between the band members with Gillian and Mike now spending more time writing their own material. The second single song choice would be crucial in terms of the band's potential success and with 'Heaven Found' having established a 'Dance' sound. Linda felt strongly that the second single had to adopt a similar flavour in order not to confuse a new and limited audience. In reality 'The Affection' disbanded before the second single was recorded. Crisis talks relvealed a determination on the part of Mike and Gillian to push for one of thier own ballads as second single which gelled a decision by Linda to move on from 'The Affection'. From 1993 onwards Linda pursued a career in TV/Film Acting while Mike, Gillian and Mark continued thier careers as individual artists. The initial success of 'Heaven Found' was not progressed by the second single release and 'The Affection' faded into history.....but the songs still remain.
