About Me

Hmmm... what about me? First and foremost I'm a Muslim, alhumdu-lillah, albeit not an excessively devout one. I'm an aspiring UK Bengali actor, dancer, writer, football fan bent on world domination - and I've finished my degree, finally!!!!
No longer hampered by that mundane but essential task (a.k.a. studying) I'm now Arts and Culture Editor of INQ Magazine, where we try to be the revolutionary change that we want to see. If any artists, writers or creative minds want to collaborate with me or contribute to my magazine then get in touch. Currently I'm looking for entercating articles and reviews on literature, theatre, art exhibitions, cultural events, festivals and anything arts related.
[email protected] The era of urban intellectualism has dawned.
Aside from all that I'm trying really hard to stay sane in this insane world, what with all the violence, the misconception and the ignorance, the imbalance and the injustice, the intolerance and the inbred Oedipus' who run tings and mess it all up for the rest of us who just want to chill out and catch joke.
Hope to add a few more videos in the coming weeks and months, so keep checking this page, insha-Allah. Take it easy.

My Interests

Laying the foundations - to take over the world! Increasing the representation of Asians (and particularly Bangladeshis) in television, film, music, literature.

I'd like to meet:

Anybody who wants to contribute their creativity and energy to INQ Magazine. Writers, designers, poets, artists, entrepreneurs - I'll embrace anyone who's on the level!!
Also anyone who works in television, film or the entertainment or media industries and also people who are looking to break into these industries.
In the meantime, here are a view videos...
This is an impromptu dance when Bollywood Grooves dance troupe met Danceafreaka in March 2007 at the Vitality Show in Olympia, London. Enjoy!
A tribute to the land where I was born, Bangladesh.
This was supposed to done properly on Big Brother but thanks to the racism controversy it got pulled. Some of the guys in my dance troupe, Bollywood Grooves, practising to 'Churake Dil Mera', a song from 'Main Khilari, Tu Anari', one of Shilpa Shetty's more successful films.
U.S.-based hip hop artists Stoic Bliss. A fan video.

Music:

Got a little bit of EVERYFING in my CD collection and on my laptop. I'm talking about Bengali folk, Bengali hip-hop, Bollywood, bhangra and desi tunes, classical, little bit of drum&bass, heavy metal, hip-hop, R&B, reggae, rock, soul... man, I said EVERYFING and I meant it!

Movies:

All time favourite has gotta be 'Gladiator'. 'Scarface', 'Goodfellas', 'Godfather' are heavy gangster films. Other US favourites include 'Memento', 'Departed' and 'American History X'.
Some of our British films are quality, like 'Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels' and 'Football Factory'. In European cinema I like 'Les Diners des Cons', 'La Gauzon Maudit', two hilarious social satires.
East Asian cinema has some great films. 'A Tale of Two Sisters', 'In the Mood for Love', 'Dark Water' come to mind quickly. From South Asian and Bollywood 'Ram Jane','Rang de Basanti', 'Dil Chahta Hai', 'Hum', 'Pyar Ka Mandir', 'Baap Numberi Beta Dhos Numbari', 'Taxi 9211' are just a few of my favourites.
Finally, lets not forget the animated movies. 'Shrek' is a great film, as is Alladin. But my all time animated favourite has to be 'Lion King'.

Television:

Standard, gotta love 'Friends'! Also love 'Family Guy','Champions League Highlights' and 'Match of the Day'. Used to love 'The Simpsons' but ain't feeling that as much as I used to. Ain't a lot of great stuff on TV - I hate all these crappy 'reality' shows. Oh yeah, have to add 'Prison Break' to that now because that's just a siiiiick programme!

Books:

Hmmm... I'm supposed to spew a pretentious list of obscure titles but the truth is I'm pretty much only interested in pulp fiction. The ones I used to enjoy back in the day are: the 'Just William' books by Richmal Compton; 'The Chronicles of Narnia' by C.S. Lewis; the 'Adrian Mole Books' by Sue Townsend. More recent books include 'Mother Tongue' by Bill Bryson; 'Salaam Brick Lane' by Tarquin Hall and books from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series. Can't think of anymore right now but there are NUFF, trust me!

Heroes:

My brother, Abul Hussain. Steven Gerrard and Prince Naseem Hamed.

A Poem for Palestine

I strived to write a poem for Palestine but what do I know to do it justice when it has seen so much injustice? I felt disgusted to see babies and their stomachs bloodied, their guts busted by bullets...

Rhymes and Reasons

I write rhymes simply because I love rhymes. I write to eject the thoughts in my head. The thrill I get is better than sex'cos it's inked on the page not sprayed on the bed, and I can go back lat...

The big bother on Big Brother

Like many others I hadn't really paid much attention to CBB except for the opening night and only to see Shilpa Shetty going in. I love the way she described herself in her introductory montage: ...
