Steff was born in Caerphilly 18th of July 1977 into a musical family, and moved to Carmarthen at the age of 7. His father played in various bands during the 60s and 70s, including mandalin on Tebot Piws’ “Dan ni’m isio mynd I Birminghamâ€. His grandfather sang with “Adar y Nant†which was broadcast during the 50s and 60s on the BBC. Both grandmothers played the organ at their chapels on a Sunday, and so it is no surprise that Steff started singing at a very early age, and was introduced to Piano and cello.Steff competed in singing competitions at the Eisteddfods as a child, and attended the local youth opera group where he had many of the lead parts. He took advantage of his fathers recording gear knocking around the house and started putting together his own tracks for fun, trying to take off Karen Carpenter, Queen, and Billy Joel to name a few. At the age of 15 Steff put together his own band “Fireblade†and they gigged around the local pubs and clubs. He first appeared on TV on the series Llwyfan on S4C. At 19 Steff attended Trinity college Carmarthen where he studied Theatre, Music and Media and graduated in 1999. That same year he went on to win Can I Gymru on S4C (song for Wales) having written and performed “Torri’n rhyddâ€. His prize money enabled him to buy his own gear for a recording studio, and so following this with the increasing exposure, started to write sig tunes for various TV programmes.Between 2001 and 2003 Steff appeared on "Cic" as a band member of a kids programme on S4C. He then joined Steve Balsamo’s band the Millionaires, playing keys and singing backing vocals. They toured the UK whilst the single Sugar for the Soul was in the charts, and appeared at various Party in the park gigs and on many TV shows including, Top of the Pops, Richard and Judy, Gloria Hunniford to name a few. His personal highlights are recording the live sessions at the Maida vale studios for Richard Allinson’s radio 2 show, singing jingles for Chris Moyles radio 1 breakfast show and working as a session musician at Abbey Road.Steff still works as a composer writing for various TV programmes, he gigs with various bands including the 60s band “Slipped Disks†and a close harmony group “Harmony central“.
