Richard Wallace, now known as "Nu Flowah", was literally "Born into Reggae". Since the age of three, he remembers his bigger brother Pat playing his sound system "Kingatone Roots" at parties, dances etc. At that age he was exposed to deep roots, rockers and revival. This type of music consisted of heavy drum and bass accompanied by various instruments implemented by such artist as Augustus Pablo, Lee Scratch Perry. In the early 1980's Nu FLowah became a Dj. He also began writing his own lyrics with his brother to chat over his music selection. During this time his lyrics painted pictures of the more mundane activities of daily living (eating, housework etc). He continued to explore his lyrical ability and decided to perform for several other sound systems. When he moved to Clapham Junction in South London, He performed with "Sticksman HiFi", "Taurus", and "Coxsone Junior" (of which he also worked as a Audio operator). The Mid eighties proved to be quite challenging for "Nu Flowah", with the untimely passing of his mother, the next ten years led him to seclusion and deep introspection, which resulted in him not writing or performing. The concept of mortality at such a young age changed his views about life and reality. In 1995 Nu Flowah embraced the teaching of His Imperial Majesty Haile Selassie I, which resulted in a new consciousness and a new way of life. He began writing again, but with a different message. His lyrics became more constructive, more positive, more social and political. His lyrics became a sounding board for the disenfranchised. Through his experiences he wanted to uplift the consciousness of the masses. His music is spiritual, real, no fantasy and very energetic. His vocal style delivery and musical format are reminiscent of his predecessors such as Burning Spears, Bob Marley, Peter Tosh, Culture and Jacob Miller, which he acknowledges them as the "Foundation". He has performed alongside artist such as; Luciano, Capleton, Abyssinians, Mykal Rose, Bob Andy and the Skatalites. He has written over 100 songs and has recorded over 43 tracks and has recently concluded his Debut album "Omnipotent" soon to be released. The majority of his songs are written on the Sabbath day, the 7th day is a sacred and spiritual day. On his album he has also incorporated Dancehall flavours and R & B tracks, which defines his lyrical versatility to set him amongst his peers.Nu Flowah continues to perform at stage shows and special events and just in case you care to wonder where the name "Nu Flowah" derives from? It is the English translation for the Amharic term "Addis Ababa" which is the Capital of "Ethiopia".
