Final Fantasy X-2 was the game that changed the face of Final Fantasy forever. As the first true sequel in the series, did Square actually make the right move? Was X-2 nothing more than an average game hidden behind beautiful graphics, or was it really worth the millions it has already rang in? For these questions, there is not one single answer. When Final Fantasy X-2 was finally released on November 18th 2003, hungry fans all over the US flocked to their local game store to pick up a copy. As they popped the disk in their PS2, a beautiful dancing Yuna appeared on the screen singing pop music as the luscious Rikku and newcomer Paine kicked some bad-guy ass. It was almost hypnotizing. The graphics were more than good; they were great, yet one thing seemed to be missing. Where was the emotion that made Final Fantasy X such a powerful game? Nonstop action, cheesy one-liners, and sexy girls in skimpy outfits replaced the dramatic beauty that X had, and fans soon realized that what they expected Final Fantasy X-2 to be was completely the opposite. As the first sequel, Final Fantasy X-2 was decent. We can only expect things to get better from here, because with Square- they always do. Final Fantasy X-2 was a different type of Final Fantasy. Love it or hate it, it definitely deserves a place in every fans collection.
