Maggie

This may sound like gibberish to you, but I think I'm in a tragedy.

About Me

I'm an Unconventional Conventionist....
Happily married to my best friend, Matt, for 11 years (and counting!) Devoted homeschooling mom of a brilliant, energetic musicial 7-year-old boy; currently in the process of adopting two more children... cat mom to two black & grey tabbies, Harry and Sally. My husband and my children are the most important thing in my world.
I'm a writer who's just starting to take herself seriously enough to consider publication. I write essays, short stories, occasional [bad] poetry, and I'm working on my first novel.
I'm somewhat obsessed with the Rocky Horror Picture Show. I perform with Transylvanian Nipple Productions , the Philly cast.
I've also recently begun performing with the New York shadowcast of Hedwig and the Angry Inch, Midnight Checkout Queens .
I'm introspective, curious, moody, artistic and sensitive.... a typical Pisces.
I type and type and type .. but when you meet me in person (or talk to me on the phone), you'll notice how quiet and reserved I am. I don't answer right away, but that doesn't mean I'm ignoring you... I just choose my words carefully and mull things over for an inappropriate amount of time.
I read more into things than I probably should, and take things personally more often than I probably should.
I overthink everything and I notice all the details.
I hold grudges.
I cry at the drop of a hat, but I try to hide it (like any good WASP).
I quote movies, especially Rocky Horror, to an annoying degree.
I curse like a sailor.
I flirt for sport.
I'm a big girl and I don't apologize for my size... in fact, I think I'm damn sexy, and most guys (and girls!) I know happen to agree :)
I love Asian food and am intrigued by the various Asian cultures, languages and traditions.
I do crosswords in ink.
I have two chronic illnesses to cope with every day, and it's not much fun.
I believe strongly that chocolate and peanut butter were meant to be together.
I'm a serious Star Wars nerd. I'm also somewhat of a musical theatre geek.
I love diners and BYOBs. I hate chain restaurants.
I have a love/hate relationship with Philadelphia.
At times, I am a walking contradiction (feminist housewife, married flirt, shy exhibitionist).
I'm an autodidact who researches things to death. I have a strong dislike for institutionalized education and believe that children and adults should be free to follow their interests and learn at their own pace.
I'm recovering from an overly religious upbringing and tend to occasionally spout off about the evils of organized religion in general, and fundamentalism in particular.
I love quotations.
Some people think I'm shy, but really I'm just a snob.
Please note:
-If you're not on my friends list, don't ask me to subscribe to your blog. Really -- why would I want to read your journal if you're not even my friend?
-I won't "pimp" you, or "whore" you, to my other friends. You're on my list; that should be good enough. If you want more friends, do the work yourself.
-If you're adding me because you want to "debate" me on any of my views (e.g. politics, religion, education), forget it. I have my views, you have yours. If you can't handle that, there's the door. Life's too short to argue with people who are supposed to be "friends."
-I have my profile set to require my last name or email address before you can add me as a friend. The reason I set it that way isn't because I'm a bitch, but rather because I get between 10 and 20 requests a day from political pages, bands, etc. and I get tired of clicking "deny"... lol. So, if you're a real person and you really want to be my friend, just send me a quick note and I'll send you a request. *smile*
You're a punk rock mommy! DIY is probably your
motto, because you're a punk mama at heart.
Your kids are getting your independent spirit
and guts, and learning to solve problems
themselves. You love it when they show their
independence, even when it's breaking your
heart.

You scored as agnosticism. You are an agnostic. Though it is generally taken that agnostics neither believe nor disbelieve in God, it is possible to be a theist or atheist in addition to an agnostic. Agnostics don't believe it is possible to prove the existence of God (nor lack thereof).Agnosticism is a philosophy that God's existence cannot be proven. Some say it is possible to be agnostic and follow a religion; however, one cannot be a devout believer if he or she does not truly believe.

..tr Modern, Cool Nerd
69 % Nerd, 52% Geek, 39% Dork
For The Record:

A Nerd is someone who is passionate about learning/being smart/academia.
A Geek is someone who is passionate about some particular area or subject, often an obscure or difficult one.
A Dork is someone who has difficulty with common social expectations/interactions.
You scored better than half in Nerd and Geek, earning you the title of: Modern, Cool Nerd.

Nerds didn't used to be cool, but in the 90's that all changed. It used to be that, if you were a computer expert, you had to wear plaid or a pocket protector or suspenders or something that announced to the world that you couldn't quite fit in. Not anymore. Now, the intelligent and geeky have eked out for themselves a modicum of respect at the very least, and "geek is chic." The Modern, Cool Nerd is intelligent, knowledgable and always the person to call in a crisis (needing computer advice/an arcane bit of trivia knowledge). They are the one you want as your lifeline in Who Wants to Be a Millionaire (or the one up there, winning the million bucks)!

Congratulations!

Thanks Again! -- THE NERD? GEEK? OR DORK? TEST

Television:

Yeah, okay, TV desensitizes you to reality and rots your brain. You know you watch it anyway, lol.

I am one of maybe 5 Americans who does NOT have cable TV. (Why do people get offended when I tell them this, and immediately start trying to get me to get cable? Does the cable company give them some kind of kickback for recruiting new subscribers?)

Anyhow... I *love* HOUSE!!! I also like Smallville, Bones, American Idol, Grey's Anatomy, and The L-Word. I watch Sesame Street, Zoom, Postcards from Buster, and Reading Rainbow with my son (when we catch them), and I'll watch just about anything on PBS, especially cooking shows (Simply Ming is my fave). I also enjoy late-night reruns of Friends, Will and Grace, and Sex and the City.

My all-time fave shows are Moonlighting and My So-Called Life. I'm so happy that I now have both of these on DVD! Hooray for technology!

Books:

Absolutely anything by Anne Tyler or Elizabeth Berg.

Dinner at the Homesick Restaurant, The Clock Winder, The Amateur Marriage, Ladder of Years, The Poisonwood Bible, Prodigal Summer, The Golden Notebook, Pippi Longstocking, The Pull of the Moon, Durable Goods, True to Form, Range of Motion, Say When, The Handmaid's Tale, Song of the Exile, Gone With the Wind, Harriet the Spy, The Red Tent, Cunt, Fat!So?, The Kite Runner, Stupid White Men, Dumbing Us Down, The Lost Daughters of China, Skinny Women are Evil, Bitch in the House, Queen of the Oddballs, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Bridge to Terabithia.

And the dictionary! I look in mine at least once a day...

Heroes:

People who aren't afraid to be who they are. People who ARE afraid to be who they are, and do it anyway. Regular people with faults and shortcomings who nevertheless do exemplary things.
Some of the well-known people I admire include: Bono, Martin Luther King Jr., Natalie Maines, Eleanor Roosevelt, Elizabeth Cady Stanton, Aung San Suu Kyi, Thomas Paine, Susan Sarandon, Michael Moore, Barbara Boxer, Cindy Sheehan, Jamila Paksima, Ellen Degeneres, Camryn Manheim (who shares my birthday! how cool!), Dan Barker, Marilyn Wann, John Cameron Mitchell, Richard O'Brien, John Holt.
Dr. Seuss, for making silliness an art form.
The Ocean, for always being there when I need it.
My friend Laurie Heikkenen.
One of my best friends, Jimmy Hurd (1959-2006):
and my two biggest heroes....
My grandparents:
Granddad... 1925-1991... for reasons probably only you and I will ever understand... and Mommom... 1928-2004... who probably never knew what a truly inspirational person she was. I miss you so much... you are and always will be my number one hero, forever.
When you are sorrowful look again in your heart, and you shall see that in truth you are weeping for that which has been your delight.
