About Me

My name is Joshua Ryan Perdue. I started playing guitar when I was 10 years old. As a child I was always surrounded by music. My brothers listened to artist spanning from AC/DC to Lawrence Welk. My mother was always singing or cooking, so I learned how to sing harmony from her and the occasional soul food recipe. My father had a 12 piece Motown style, R&B show band. With the bands frequent rehearsals in our garage, my ear for soulful music, 5 part harmonies and structure was developing. When I was around 13 years old I met a guitar player named Chris Smith, who later played bass in my first band, a blues band called Souled Out. Along with Chris and his brother, we all sharpened our skills as musicians. With interest in bands such as AC/DC and Primus to Beastie Boys and Stevie Ray Vaughan, we were always involved in music. After high school the band had a new line-up and a new name, Cat Rio. We played a mixture of Rockabilly, Blues and Soul. A few years later the band split up to follow personal intrest. With a few bands and projects here and there, I spent most of my twenties discovering music, learning music theory, improvisational skills, and songwriting. In that time I also developed a strong love for boogaloo, funk and jazz. Now I teach, play and live music in Austin, Texas …………..to be continued……………

Boogaloo  boo/ga/loo n/adj./v- 1: a many splendored thing; 2: a nasty vibe, and a sweet sexy feeling; a natural release of the essence within; 3: something you do while walking down Broadway....
