Tiziana Contino nasce nel 1979 a Catania, il suo lavoro nel campo delle arti visive ha inizio nel 1998 con un intenso approccio alla pittura per poi passare alla fotografia, al video e alla performance ed all’installazione, fra il 1998 ed il 2002 partecipa a diverse esposizioni in Italia e all’estero, nel 2003 partecipa ad Anteprima - Quadriennale di Roma e a diverse manifestazioni e workshop all'estero, Nel 2005 prende parte alla BJCEM - XII Biennale dei giovani artisti d’Europa e del mediterraneo; nel 2006 ha tre personali a Torino, Roma e Catania, nel 2007 viene selezionata per il Contemporary Art Festival di Praga nella sezione video. Il suo studio si focalizza sul Transgenderismo, un'articolata corrente di pensiero che abbraccia i più disparati campi del vivere.

David Bowie, mitico camaleonte, precorritore di tempi e modi-mode, è da sempre stato convinto che la cangianza e la possibilità di differenziazione di noi stessi sia insita nella natura umana: la forzatura sta nel costringere la nostra mente e il nostro corpo in una legislazione sterile, dettata dalla stereotipata visione del non-conforme. Negli anni '90, un individuo interessante come Helena Velena proponeva una definizione di Transgender: " Il Transgenderismo è una visio¬ne del continuum comportamentale che esiste tra le due pola¬rità: quella dello spettro infinito di possibilità che si presen¬tano "transitando" da un punto all'altro. Il transgenderismo legittima quindi l'esistenza dell'infinità possibile di momenti di "identità ". " Il Trangenderismo, di cui mi sento di essere una rappresentante, è un "transitare oltre" ogni genere: maschile, femminile, transessuale, androgino. Come il Rebis, figura alchemica, mi mostro completo ed equivalente alla pietra filosofale, al prezioso bianco che comprende il tutto. Mi muovo nell'infinità dei generi e passandoli li supero tutti per approdare al non-genere. Il Transgender non si riferisce solo ad un contesto di genere sessuale, ma anche di genere sociale, creativo, politico, filosofico e religioso. Sono tutto e niente contemporaneamente: l'arco e la freccia. " (Tiziana Contino)

Something about my works...In the 90’s Helena Velena proposed a definition of Transgender:Transgenderism is a vision of the behavioural pattern that exists between two polarities: the vision of the never-ending range of possibilities available when in ‘transit’ from one point to another. In this way, Transgenderism legitimises the existence of innumerable possibilities of ‘identity’ moments.My definition of Transgenderism is:The ‘transit’ beyond every gender: masculine, feminine, transexual, androgyne. As the alchemic figure of the Rebis, I show myself complete and equivalent to the Philosophers’ Stone, or the precious white, which comprises everything. I move in amongst innumerable genders and I go beyond them, to reach the non-gender. Transgender doesn’t simply apply to the sexual sphere, but also to social, creative, political, philosophic and religious ones. Each experience is imprinted on me and, by making it my own, I go beyond it in a continuous, endless circle. I am everything and nothing at the same time: the arch and the arrow.I have assumed the definition of Transgender because I regard it as a lifestyle; dealing with Visual Arts, it is interesting for me to discuss Live Art: life intended as Art, where action is aesthetic action. Trasgender is in transit under every shape, spitting and swallowing while transforming: it goes from one extreme to the opposite without inhibitions.My work is focused on the inner world rather than on personality: each individual is and expresses a dynamic being. My attention is devoted to this ongoing moment of ‘transit’, the process of change and its possibility to end in radical results, within the individual. To be a transgender doesn’t necessarily mean to be a transexual, it means to succeed in transiting within experiences, which might not fall into any specific definition or classification; My research identifies the need for transformation and perpetual movement, and many of my photografic works belong to video projects, bearing the same name, where I describe these transitions.
