About Me

Our website has been updated to reflect our Fall 2007 issue (on sale 8/21/07). Click "Pics" to see a few of the projects in the Fall 2007 and Summer 2007 issues!
NEWSLETTER: Guess what? We've gotten together with our sister publications, Scrapbooking & Beyond and Paper Creations, to create a newsletter. Distributed quarterly (for now anyway), "Cut the Scrap" contains exclusive projects, articles, contests, news, giveaways, and more. Basically whatever we can fit in! Despite the title, it's not a scrapbooking newsletter, per se. We throw in a bit ("scraps") from each of the three mags. We just liked the title. Because it sounds nasty if you're not paying attention. To subscribe, just visit creativetechniquesmag.com and scroll to the bottom of our front page. And no, we don't sell email addresses. Honestly. Try it out! You'll like it! It's free!
Creative TECHniques puts the fiber in your crafting diet! Use the technology you have (like printers, computers, digital cameras, scanners, etc.) to make the projects you want (mixed-media collage, digital art, scrapbooking, etc.). We show you how with our perfect blend of fresh and funky projects and inspirational articles. Trust me, there's no cookie-cutter crafts in here!
Find out more about Creative TECHniques (and our latest issue) at www.creativetechniquesmag.com .
Find us at select Barnes & Noble, Borders, Walmart, and major craft and hobby stores. Can't find a copy? Just call our Reader Service department at (973) 347-6900 x101 to pay by major credit card. (You can always send a check or money order--payable to Creative TECHniques, add $3 each copy for s&h (yes, it really does cost that much)--to All American Crafts Inc., Attn: Reader Service, 7 Waterloo Rd., Stanhope NJ 07874.
Wanna subscribe? We're happy to have you! Just visit our subscription services site and make it happen! (Renew existing subscriptions here .)

If we haven't featured what you want to see yet, tell us to do it, or--better yet--do it for us and let us pay you! (Honestly, we like to pay people; it's a thing with us.)

My Interests

Technology, life in the digital world, cool hip modern crafting/creativity, edgy scrapping, tech talk

I'd like to meet:

Anyone interested in technology, cool DIY / indie / inventive / modern crafting, edgy scrapbooking (digital or paper), tech stuff. We like to think of ourselves as the mag for the "Been there, done that" crowd, so if that's you, drop me a line! I'd love to meet some designers or writers who'd like to do something for Creative TECHniques.

Music:

Hmmm me as a magazine isn't interested in bands, but is definitely interested in telling people about the intricacies of downloading music, MP3/video players, new products. Always looking to review stuff too (not recordings, but stuff).
Me as a person is into (for right now anyway) Paolo Nutini, The Killers, Keane, Pussycat Dolls, Ryksopp, The View, Amy Winehouse, Death Cab for Cutie, Kasabian, David Guetta, Sugababes, Muse, Panic! At the Disco, Matisyahu, Hard Fi, Stereophonics, Fall Out Boy, Snow Patrol, Bright Eyes, the Cure, Depeche Mode, Thom Yorke, Radiohead, The Verve, Portishead, Sneaker Pimps, Underworld, Pet Shop Boys, Scissor Sisters, Led Zeppelin, The Datsuns, Garageland, Stellar, Bic Runga, Rumpus Room, Zed, Flogging Molly, Gaelic Storm, Powderfinger, the Levellers, New Order, Massive Attack, Badly Drawn Boy. I'll admit this once and only once: I'm really into mid to late 80s and early 90s freestyle dance music. It's the NYC girl in me.

Movies:

Hmmm me as a magazine isn't interested in actual films, but definitely into telling people how to make good home flicks, buy video equipment, etc. Always looking to review stuff too.
Me as a person? Polyester, Memron, Casanova, The Station Agent, Disco Pigs, The Last Party, Lock Stock & Two Smoking Barrels, Snatch, Ocean's Eleven, The Italian Job, The Departed, Romeo + Juliet, Northfork, Twin Falls Idaho, Mean Girls, 10 Things I Hate About You, Sling Blade, Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction, A Clockwork Orange, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, Snakepit, Dude Where's My Car, Eurotrip, Amelie, Double Happiness, Session 9, Bubble, Office Space, Man on Fire, Beloved

Television:

Me the magazine tries not to watch TV because it's too distracting. Why enjoy life when me the magazine can be slaving away editing yet another manuscript?
Me the person: Split Ends, Dirty Jobs, Little People Big World, The Twilight Zone, Lost, The Sopranos, Anderson Cooper 360, Little Britain, Hex, The 4400, MythBusters, Extreme Engineering, Dead Like Me, Eureka, Weird US repeats, Celebrity Paranormal Project, Homicide: Life on the Street, Ghost Hunters, Psych

Books:

Me the magazine loves any book that takes a fresh (heh, sarcastic) attitude toward life in general, be it politics, crafts, tech stuff, gas prices, whatever. If it's never been done before and it's a catchy interesting read, send a review copy to me the magazine!
Me the person likes Harry Potter books, biographies (Anderson Cooper's "Dispatches from the Edge," James McGreevey's "The Confession," and anything by either of the Clintons), short story compilations. I have a demented fascination for books about disasters, natural or manmade (Boston's Cocoanut Grove and Titanic are my long-time obsessions). I go through the odd political thriller phase (right now, anything by David Baldacci cuz it's easy to read and simple to follow--doesn't require a lot of thought or attention, perfect for "deadline reading"). I also do a lot of professional reading. I have actually read "The Chicago Manual of Style" from cover to cover--and enjoyed it! I also love anything by Stephen King though there are occasional disappointments there as of recent years, particularly with the end of "The Dark Tower" series.
I read heaps of magazines--part of the danger of the job, I suppose--I have current subscriptions to Paper, Q, Wired, Vanity Fair, Bust, Smart Computing, Pink, and New Yorker. I don't buy mags on the newsstand. I dunno why. I think that prolly fares poorly for my future as a magazine editor...

Heroes:

Anyone brave enough to work outside of dictated "norms." People who like thinking for themselves. Individuals who take extreme pride in being just that--individuals.

Review of "Mr. Woodcock"

Like the title (it's racy). Like the poster (it's baudy). Hated the movie (it stunk). Billy Bob Thornton was his usual absolutely spectacularly talented self. Everybody else sucked. Especially the guy...

Who else reads Lemony Snicket books?

I just discovered the Lemony Snicket "A Series of Unforunate Events" books. They are a laugh riot! I'm addicted. I went to my local bookstore and bought the entire series last night. At $12.99 a pop t...

Movies and stuff

I'm an avid movie-goer. I don't mean that I rent a couple films per week, it means I go to the movies at least once a week, sometimes twice. With other people or alone, doesn't matter to me, there are...

Cant find the Fall 2007 issue?

I've been getting a lot of emails from people interested in Creative TECHniques asking where it's sold in their area. The answer is always the same. *shrugs* I dunno. Why don't I know?...

My {frustrating} week

It started out well. I'd decided to help my mom shake off a credit card that went from a really nice low fixed APR to a ridiculously high APR on Saturday, which somehow led to me discovering that I'm ...

We are looking for new designs!

Our Spring 2008 issue (on sale 2/19/08) will be the first one in which we start looking at art in a slightly different way. No more tech articles unless they relate to creativity, more projects for al...

Hell has frozen over! Has anyone noticed?

I started going to a gym. Me, who has always been "allergic" to sweat and physical labor of any kind, has taken the plunge and shelled out $700 to join a gym. Okay, Curves. The "big-girl gym." But it ...

Bad outfit week

Ever have one of those weeks when, no matter how hard you try, you just can't look halfway decent? Argh. I'm having one of them. Monday found me unable to move beyond the basic jeans and t-shirt ens...
