American Football is finally making a return to the Three Counties after more than a decade! We are the Bedfordshire Blue Raiders, and are hoping to enter the British American Football League (BAFL) at the earliest possible opportunity & continue a great tradition in the area. In the past, there were successful teams in Bedford, Luton, Dunstable, Milton Keynes & Hertfordshire. The Blue Raiders want to build on that tradition and bring this exciting sport back to the area.
There is a proud tradition of American Football in the three counties. The idea of an American Football League was first mooted in the Post House Hotel in Bedford in 1984. After a further meeting in London, two leagues were formed and it wasnâ€™t long before the Three Counties got involved. The St. Albans Kestrels and the Herts Stags to name just two, but the most successful teams were the Luton Flyers and MK Bucks, later known as The Pioneers. MK Bucks were acknowledged as the second best in the country after attracting seven-thousand fans to one of their matches. They eventually won the Conference in 1985 but collapsed soon after that.
Steve Guy from Bedford and Dave Pankhurst from Luton are the driving force behind the idea that Bedfordshire would once again have its own American Football team. But not just any old team that would be no better than mediocre, but a fully formed team consisting of an eager group of players tutored by some of the best coaches in the country. A team that would have one of the best youth set-ups in the country, helping to produce tomorrowâ€™s star players. It would be an impressive team, run well both on and off the field. A team that sets itself higher and higher goals and achieves them and a team everyone in the area would be proud of.
A group of like-minded individuals have joined forces to help this dream become reality, and thus the Bedfordshire Blue Raiders were born. Our journey has only just begun. All great journeys are a collection of small steps. Sometimes taking the next step seems difficult, but the Blue Raiders intend on never giving up.

As the poster below says, the Bedfordshire Blue Raiders are always interested in meeting anyone who wants to join the BLUE RAIDER NATION whether it be players, coaches, cheerleaders, or that just generally wants to help!! We are always on the look out for new talent, and are a friendly bunch who are happy to welcome any inexperienced players or experienced players to the team.

If youâ€™ve ever wanted to play American Football, then now is the time. We encourage anyone that thinks that they are too old, too small, too slow, or that they donâ€™t know enough about the rules to play the game to think again. Our players are a manor of different shapes and sizes playing in a variety of positions. The experienced coaches we have will help you with any game knowledge or fitness related. The group of players we have assembled will also be there to help you by passing on what they know, but also offering encouragement and comradeship.

The best way to get involved is to come along to one of our practice sessions. There youâ€™ll be able to look first hand at what playing the game entails, but also talk to current players and coaches to answer any questions you may have.
