"THE FIRST APPROACH" With the electric Bass guitar, it was by mere chance that, at the age of approximately 14/15 years old, I was attracted by the sound of two guitars one day as I was returning home. The musicians turned out to be two guys about the same age as myself who were executing a passage of “Maria Elena†by "Los Indios Tabajaros". Sitting in the doorway, I was spellbound by the beauty of the harmony of sounds full of virtuosity, delicate and harmonious phrasings, and from the cadenza (to beat out the rhythm) of the other rhythmic guitar, that chanted several passages accompanied nearly in unison to the melody. I waited until they finished the performance in order to compliment them but was approached first with a "Serafico way" from the one who would become my musical master and inseparable friend who asked me "Do you want to join our group?" Startled by the unexpected question, I replied: “But truly, I have never touched a guitar, although I have broken almost all the chairs in my house, because I have a passion to play the drums.†Without missing a beat, the other, Nuccio Tudisco, said “we already have a drummer... we just need a bass player and if you agree I’ll teach you.†Immediately my answer was, “When is the first lesson?â€Get Your Own! | View SlideshowMY FIRST BAND: I agreed at once, and, seated on the steps of the house of Gianni Catania, I had my first bass lesson… some harmonic scales, with the promise that I would practice at home. But with what instrument??? Like magic, while returning home, in a store that sold used items I noticed a damaged old guitar without strings. I bought it for the small amount of a couple thousand lire (a few dollars) and taking advantage of the friendship of a cabinet-maker carpenter, a neighbor of the house where I went to work in the summer time, I replaced and made the guitar like brand new or, as we used to say, "Shining" . Without going into the details and the mishaps to gather up the money to buy a set of strings, (all of my savings had been spent to buy the old guitar) the guitar strings and the restoration cost me as much as the guitar itself. The difficulty came when I tried to remember the lesson, in order to pass the audition of the scales "Modality" & "Pentatonic" ...uhh!!!! With bewildered words, I said at that time, inexperienced as I was, “what will they be?†After a whole night of test and confirmation, view and reviews, I obtained my first success by playing, good or bad, the first notes from the above-mentioned scales. "I 3 N & Gâ€... After about a week of tests and practice, the two friends of mine decided that the time had come to start looking for a singer. At this point I said, “Why do you have to look for a singer??? Why don't you audition me?†“You can sing?†answered my friend. “Well… I sing and whistle all day long from the morning to the evening and my father almost gets annoyed from my insistent mood for being fond of singing. He often tells me in an indirect manner, “If that sparrow doesn’t stop singing I’m going to shoot him.†From the laughs we proceeded to my singing audition and, just like that, the group was complete. We named the group "I 3 N & G" Nuccio Tudisco, Nuccio Marino, Nuccio Nicastro & Gianni Catania.Get Your Own! | View SlideshowTHE UNION DOES THE FORCE....... At nearly the same time my brother Roberto, who was a bassist at the time, along with vocalist Piero Vinci, formed another band by the name "I PECCATORI" . Some time after they left their group to join the group known as "I 3 N & G". At that time Gianni Catania left the group, so we decided to drop the "G". After changing and completing the new band, we formed the group called "I TOPI". It was at this point that I changed my position in the group from lead vocalist and bassist to second voice and rhythm guitarist, with my brother Roberto playing bass. The lead vocals were left to Piero. The group basically became a Vocal & Instrumental band, The Group called "I TOPI" had been voted best Regional band in 1968, together with "The JEANS†of Messina, and “THE BEANS†of Catania" and we were to participate in the National contest, entitled "Eurodavoli" for bands managed and sponsored by "DAVOLI". All of the hard work paid off when "I TOPI" was voted in this competition, which was held in Livorno, one of the top 10 national bands. In 1971, "I TOPI†broke up due to Nuccio joining the Navy and his brother Roberto joining the army. The other band members eventually got married and started families. In the subsequent years, Nuccio utilizing his passion for the drums, formed another band, "The Sweet Temptation", but he left the role of drummer to take part of the folk group“I Cori Di Val D'Anapo", who had the opportunity to publish the songs and folk dances of their own land, a symbol of the culture and of the traditions that populate Sicily. Another decisive turn in his musical route came, when…. IN 1997, together with his daughters, he relocated to the USA. He took part as a LEADER guitarist and singer for some Italian American groups in the tri-state area.....Well...if you read until the buttom line, you know more about me...Thanks for your time.....Love NUCCIO MARINOMyspace Layouts by Pimp-My-Profile.com
