Six-time Emmy nominated actor, Ed Begley, Jr. is bringing back his popular musical production, CESAR & RUBEN about the life of labor activist, Cesar Chavez. The play chronicles the life of Chavez after his death when he meets the late Los Angeles Times reporter, Ruben Salazar in the cafe where Salazar was tragically killed 23 years prior.
Performances begin August 3. The show plays Thursday through Sunday at 8:00 pm with an additional matinee performance on Sundays at 3:00 PMThe original production- written, produced and directed by Begley at the El Portal Theater in 2003 played to sold out audiences and gained critical acclaim. The production won a Nos Otros Award and four Valley Theater Awards while gaining enthusiastic support from the Cesar Chavez Foundation, the United Farm Workers and Chavez’ widow and children.

Open At The Top begins its 2007/2008 season with the intimate play, The Drawer Boy by Michael Healey. Presented in association with 49th Parallel Theatre Company this drama explores the lives of three men in rural Canada. Angus and Morgan are two men in their fifties living on a farm outside Toronto, Ontario. Miles, an upstart young actor visits the two men hoping to gain personal experience as research for a play he is developing with his acting company. What Miles uncovers changes the lives of all three men forever.
