Radio 1’s In New Music We Trust presenter’s Nerm & D-Code and Dented Records Sunnyjim are a few of the names announced in the first round of acts for Shaanti presents Champion Sound at Concrete, Birmingham’s hottest new club.
Champion Sound is the underground illegitimate child of Birmingham’s Shaanti’s showcase night happening on the Sunday 25th of May Bank Holiday Weekend at Concrete. Shaanti presents Champion Sound is a heavier and more serious outlook to music with the night’s typically funky approach. The programme is split into three sections: Live Vs DJ Vs Art.“The concept of Champion Sound is to sound-clash many different musical forms and genres into one club sound. It’s about promoting new music on a underground level, It’s also a chance to showcase exclusive DJ sets from artists from the breaks, drum and bass, dub, liquid Jazz, Asian fusion… community together with an eclectic, intimate backdrop of raw undiluted live talent,†Manga, Founder of Shaanti says.“Champion Sound is all about the music first; it’s also a place where artists and new talent can network, showcase and jam with like-minded people who love music. In many ways it what Shaanti used to be like when it first launched back in 1999,†he adds.“To put it in a nutshell the night is about Championing New Sounds.†He says.The parties will be happening bi-monthly from May, at the newly launched Concrete Club - home to Bugz in the Attic’s Co-op, Drop Beats Not Bombs Night My Bass, Miss Moneypenny’s (Twilight) and Southport Weekender’s Choice Uber – underground basement at The Big Peg, formally The Old Boiler Room in Birmingham.
Kicking of the launch are Radio 1’s In New Music We Trust presenters Nerm & D-Code from Shiva Soundsystem, conscious Hip-Hop artist Sunnyjim Live & Guests (Dented Records/Foreign Beggar’s) and Eastern Breaks and Bass DJs Audio Dakoo’s (as heard on Radio 1 and the BBC Asian Network) supported by local crews.Fourth and final stages of acts also confirmed to be on an Asian Break-Beat tip are Bass Flo and Hip-Hop, Reggae and World Jazz music pioneer Raju Mahli and guests will be performing live.
