I am here for Friends and Networking

About Me

Greetings. My name's Dawson. I am an opinionated and a brutally honest type of guy. This is a modern-day euphimism for asshole. So, yeah.
I currently play guitar for The Dark Water Hymnal , a project started by my friends Jeremy Ballard and Emily Hurt. I began working with them before joining M.O.D. in April and since I am a free man now, have decided to go back.
In between my work and my band, I am a husband and dad to the two most beautiful ladies in the world.
I also try to squeeze in some console gaming. I am a huge gaming geek. I've probably played and owned more games in my lifetime that most audio geeks have owned CD's. But I don't believe in keeping games forever, really. Unless they're classics. Like God of War. I'll never trade that game in. Ever. Ever.
I tend to be pretty geeky about a lot of geeky things. I love watching the Science Channel because of the cool Solar System shows and highlights of satellite flybys of the gas giants in the outer solar system. I don't watch the SCI-FI channel, though. I avoided that channel when it came out. I avoided it when they started doing the Stargate SG-1 show. I avoided it when Farscape was being crammed in everyone's asses. I even avoided the crappy movies they made. But I couldn't escape the utter monstrosity that was Dune and Children of Dune. The ones that starred William Hurt.
I'm a Star Wars geek (BIG SUPRISE!) and also a Star Trek geek..but not as much as Star Wars. I do enjoy talking with kids that geek out on it more than me. Fucking awful shit...I think one of the greatest movie moments to me was when those two guys in Clerks 2 who argue over Star Wars vs. Lord of the Rings until Lord of the Rings guy pukes. Rule. These guys would both puke if there were a Dune guy in the debate.
Which brings me to Dune. I don't know anyone who has read Dune more than once or any of the rest. Above He-Man, GI Joe, MXC, Video Games, Comics, or even freaking Star Wars...I geek out like no other when it comes to the Dune Chronicles. ANYWAY, you want to talk Dune (The Butlerian Jihad to Hunters of Dune), I'm your geek. Love the Lynch movie. I have the super long version, too. Anyway, I think Dune is the shit.
I tend to have an unfair sense of humor. I really don't establish any boundaries. That is unless you have slipped on ice and your femur breaks the skin when you land. That shit sucks. But everything else is pretty much game. Race, Sex, Class, Religion, Ethnicity, Physical Disability...all funny. Keep in mind, I give the occasional dollar to homeless folks and always contribute to the local fire dept's "Fill the Boot" campaigns. I DO NOT, however, give money to high school teams trying to make the playoffs and churches who gather money on the side of the road. If your own congregation won't help you, then why the hell should I? I am debating sitting out at the corner of 360 and Great Hills with a cardboard sign that says: "Musician trying to tour, anything helps, God Bless". Maybe that will work...?

My Interests

Here are some of the musical things that I have done/done with other people:

I currently play guitar for The Dark Water Hymnal--a dark folk band here in Austin

M.O.D.--old school thrash/metal/browbeating
Offset Proof-my first real band, metalcore.

dj insidiom-some drum n bass tracks that i made a few years ago

Eli--my first try as a drummer

Topside for Questioning--drum n bass tunes with sound clips from Half-Life 1

The Frothy Lads--a jam band experiment and my first try at music in Austin

The Ghost of Sparta--a concept that pretty much went nowhere

Music for Astronauts--ambient guitar mixed with noise from space

Chiasma--a noise/metal band

I'd like to meet:

It has been my experience that the people whom you idolize often have the same fucked up baggage as everyone else. Therefore, i dont want to put up with that shit.
