Marcelo A.P. aka Dj Guata, born in Guatemala, lives in Rio de Janeiro, Brasil, since 1997.
He began his interest in music at the age of 17, when starting to play bass in an alternative band, playing cover songs from Nirvana, Pearl Jam, Metallica, among others. After a few years he started to listen to electronic music.
At the end of 1999 Dj Guata then decided to buy a pair of MK2 turntables and a mixer to understand and try what Djs do. After becoming friends with some local Djs, he started buying records and playing in small parties promoted by friends.
In 2001 he got his first residency at a weekly Friday night's party called D-Tribe and played alongside top national and international Djs Chris Liberator, Alex S, Camilo Rocha, Mauricio Lopes, among others.
After that he played in almost every club in Rio de Janeiro such as: Bunker 94, Mess Club, Teatro da Lagoa, Les Artists, The Cube, Nova, People (resident in 2003), Six Club (resident in 2001/2002), Melt, The Filter, No Name Bar and Dama de Ferro.
He started in the line-up of numerous parties and raves like Bunker Non Stop, Love Parade Rave, Station After Hours, Overload Deluxe (with Funk D'Void), Chivas Island, The Boat Night, Friendship, Summer Sessions. He has also played in São Paulo, Lorena, Angra dos Reis and Macaé, and was invited for a special set at the Ultra Lounge in Cancun, Mexico.
As a producer, DJ Guata started in 2003 and has released a track called Synthcore (Sygno Music), which also appeared on the CD Rio Parade - Rio de Janeiro’s very own love parade.
Away from the turntables since 2005, now he returns playing minimal techno and electro, with a touch of techno and break beats, and has a new project for developing his own label FOOSE Records.
